Men's Lacrosse Rights The Ship With Convincing Victory Over Albion

Box Score Losing the last two games did not sit well with the John Carroll Blue Streaks. That was evident from the outset Tuesday night at Albion.

In a place where JCU had never before tasted victory, the Blue Streaks rode the momentum of six first period goals to post a convincing 13-5 victory over Albion College.

JCU had lost two one-goal games to the Britons in 2016 and 2017, but had exacted some measure of revenge in the 2017 NCAA postseason when the Blue Streaks beat Albion, 14-9, for the program's first Division III playoff win.

This was the Blue Streaks' first win on Albion's home turf, and on Tuesday, it was snow covered turf.

John Carroll gave up an early goal but then answered with eight consecutive points -- six to end the first period and two to start the second. The Blue Streaks held an 8-2 advantage at the break.

Albion would get as close as four points when it started the third quarter with a pair of goals, but John Carroll allowed just one more point over the final 23 minutes of regulation. In the meantime, the offense was rediscovered, and five more JCU goals found the back of the Britons' net.

Connor Pike tallied a team-best three goals and an assist, while Colin Corcoran had two goals and a team-high three helpers. Also scoring goals were Brendan Whitty (2), Ryan Crater (2), Skyler Blake, Kevin Hack, Alan Adams and MacGregor Roberts. Crater and Nick Pomeplia had two assists apiece, while RP Whitty had one.

Clayton Karam had a great day on defense, causing five turnovers and picking up five ground balls.

Jacob Betz was again solid minding the pipes, making eight saves and allowing just five goals.

JCU had 46 shots to Albion's 24 (32-13 on goal), and forced 26 turnovers from the Britons.

The Blue Streaks improve to 3-2 on the year while Albion -- the preseason favorite and defending champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association -- fall to 1-4 on the season.
