Box Score Anyone looking at the 2018 John Carroll men's lacrosse schedule knows that the two teams picked to win the Ohio Athletic Conference in a preseason poll face off on Saturday.
Before Capital makes its way to Don Shula Stadium for the much anticipated showdown, there was the matter of John Carroll hosting Alma in a non-conference game that marked the Blue Streaks' home opener.
Any fears of the Blue & Gold looking past Alma were quickly quelled, as seven first period goals led to an 18-7 victory.
JCU had four different players score int he opening ten minutes, as
Collin Rice,
MacGregor Roberts,
Skyler Blake and
Colin Corcoran found the back of the net, chasing Alma's starting keeper.
Blake, Corcoran and
Kevin Hack added goals as the Blue Streaks led 7-2 after one quarter.
RP Whitty opened the second quarter scoring to stake the Blue Streaks an 8-2 lead. After surrendering a man-up goal, John Carroll tallied the final two goals of the opening half -- one by Corcoran and one by Blake -- to lead 10-3 at the halfway mark.
Blake picked up where he left off and scored two more goals (his 17th and 18th of the season) to increase the advantage to 12-3. The Blue Streaks then pushed their lead to double figures on a
Nick Pompelia goal at the 11:40 mark of the third quarter.
Rice (2), Blake, Corcoran and
Ryan Crater scored the final five goals of the game in what was the Blue Streaks largest goal total of the 2018 campaign.
Josh Plarr,
RP Whitty and Rice had a team-high two assists, and Plarr was 15-26 in faceoffs.
JCU, which improved to 4-2, outshot Alma 49-21. The visiting Scots fell to 2-6.
