Case Western Reserve University got the best of John Carroll in the cross-town, non-conference matchup between the Blue Streaks and Spartans. Case Western took the first game 3-1, while using a late game rally to take the second game by a score of 12-5.

Game 1 - Case Western 3, John Carroll 1

In the first game a pitching dual took place for both teams, as only one earned run was accounted for between Case Western and John Carroll. However, four errors for the Blue Streaks were the difference as the Spartans managed to take game one.

Neither team could get anything going offensively, until the top of the third inning when senior, Jennie Broski crushed a solo homerun over the left field fence, her second of the season,  giving John Carroll the early 1-0 advantage.

Case Western was quick to respond in the bottom of the third scoring a run of their own, knotting the game back up at one.

The Spartans scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking advantage of an error by the Blue Streaks to push the margin out to 3-1 in favor of the Spartans.

Each team could scratch out only one hit a piece over the final three innings as the Spartans would escape with the Game 1 victory.

Junior Jessica Cook finished the game pitching six innings, not surrendering a single earned run.

Game 2 - Case Western 12, John Carroll 5

A late inning rally by the Spartans served as the difference in the game 2 victory for Case Western Reserve. However, the bats came to life in the second game, as eight Blue Streaks recorded hits in the 12-5 loss to the Spartans.

The scoring started in a unique fashion in the second inning when John Carroll scored on a dropped third strike in which the speedy sophomore, Lauren Ogurek, was able to advance home on a heads up play to give the Blue and Gold a 1-0 advantage.

In the third inning, the Blue Streaks struck again when Ogurek managed to rip a full count two-out single up the middle to score senior, Hannah Mizener to make the score 2-0 JCU.

Case Western would refuse to let the Blue Streaks advantage get to them, as the Spartans tacked on two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at two.

In the visitor half of the fourth, Broski led off the inning with her second home run of the afternoon taking the lead back for the Blue and Gold 3-2.

Junior Lindsay McKnight grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Sobieszczanski. Mizener capped off the scoring on a single to the first base side to score Noday to give John Carroll the 5-2 lead.

Unfortunately for the Blue Streaks in the home half of the fifth CWRU was able to score six runs on five hits to flip the score in favor of the Spartans 8-5.

The Spartans would add on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 12-5 Case Western.

With the loss the Blue Streaks fall to 14-17 overall, while Case Western advances to 26-8 overall.

Next up for the Blue Streaks, they will host Marietta this Saturday on Senior Day, with first pitch slated for 1:00 pm.
