The JCU women's lacrosse lacrosse team finished the regular season with a program-best 14 wins, topping the Otterbein Cardinals on the road on Saturday, 20-8.
The Blue Streaks are in their fourth season as a varsity program, and have officially clinched a spot in the OAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
Finishing 14-2 (6-1 OAC) is a career-best for head coach Rachel Dell, as the Otterbein Cardinals fall out of the OAC Tournament contention with a loss on Saturday.
Senior Gina Vilsack led the way for the Blue and Gold, tallying six goals and five assists for 11 total points. Visack's six-goal showing 10th five or more goal performance this season.
The first half of play featured 20 goals between both teams, with the Blue and Gold scoring 14 of the 20 goals.
Junior Alexis Guage scored 2:26 into the contest to establish the 1-0 lead for the Blue and Gold. Otterbein was able to notch one goal before the JCU scoring run began to sprint.
JCU extended their lead to a score of 6-1, by catching fire with a five-goal run, three of which came from Vilsack. Otterbein responded to cut the lead to four goals.
With 16:55 remaining in the first half, sophomore Colleen Grombala led a Blue Streak spurt of four goals to answer, make the score 9-2. Once again the Cardinals ended the snippet of a run.
The Blue and Gold added going on a 6-0 before the half, taking a 16-4 notch into the intermission.
Otterbein and John Carroll tallied four goals a piece in the second half, as JCU earned the 20-8 win.
JCU held the overall advantage on draw controls, winning 19 of 30.
On the defensive end, the Blue and Gold gathered 37 ground balls compared to the Cardinals 24. JCU also successfully cleared 9 out of their 11 clear attempts.
Senior Meghan Harte scored three goals and two assists to total five points. Grombala also scored four goals in the win for the Blue and Gold, with freshman Sophie Brandimarte adding two assists.
The Blue Streaks will host the Capital Crusaders on Tuesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the semifinal round of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
JCU defeated Capital, 12-11, in overtime earlier this season, in a road match at Capital.
