When the organizers of Division III Week 2018 selected the dates of April 1-8 for this year's celebration, it was not lost on those at John Carroll that two of the days would be outside of the school's academic calendar. Because of Easter break, classes did not resume until April 3.
So taking what could have been a negative situation and turning it into a positive, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at John Carroll decided to celebrate a week later.
The result is that John Carroll's Streaks To The Max III endeavor will commence on the final day of the official "D3 Week", kicking off a week's worth of activities designed "for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement."
"Streaks To The Max III" will officially launch with the SAAC Blue Carpet Awards to be held on campus on Sunday, April 8, at the Dolan Science Center from 3-5:30 p.m. There is a reception hour where current student-athletes can meet former student-athletes and students who were associated with athletics during their time at JCU.

The name of the event honors both the participants and the cause. Streaks is the shortened version of the school's mascot, Blue Streaks, and Max is in honor of Mr. Agin's Max Cure Foundation.
The three-fold mission of The Max Cure Foundation includes funding research for pediatric cancer treatment development, including efforts to discover less toxic treatments for children with cancer, financially assisting low-income and military families with children battling cancer; and through vigorous advocacy efforts, to pursue legislative and regulatory changes seeking to benefit children with cancer and at the same time, raise awareness to the needs of those fighting pediatric cancers.
As a Jesuit Catholic university, John Carroll inspires individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world. The University finds the source of its inspiration in the experience of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and the centuries-long commitment of the Society of Jesus to academic excellence and service to the common good.
The Streaks to the Max campaign certainly upholds the University mission, and hopefully will serve to further establish the John Carroll University student-athlete as champions of learning, leadership and service.
