A jarring start to Saturday's game may have prevented any complacency on the part of the John Carroll men's lacrosse team.

Instead, the Blue Streaks remained undefeated at home (3-0) and in conference play (3-0) while improving to 7-3 overall on the season, with a 25-3 win over Wilmington College (3-7, 0-4 OAC) at Don Shula Stadium.

Before everyone had settled in to take their seats on a sunny but cold April afternoon, the visiting Quakers scored eight seconds off of the opening faceoff. Senior Tanner Diment put the Quakers on the board, giving his team the lead for the first time this afternoon, and for the first time in the history of the John Carroll vs. Wilmington series.

Wilmington also won the subsequent faceoff before the Blue Streaks joined the fight.

Once the fight was joined, it was all John Carroll as the Blue Streaks scored seven unanswered goals and never looked back.

The second quarter proved to be nearly identical to the first, as the Blue Streaks outscored the Quakers 8-1. The home team ended the half on an explosive 8-0 run, which would classify as the largest run in the history of the series. Contributing to the historic run was senior Logan Calhoun, who scored the final two goals before the end of first half play.

It was all Blue Streaks from then on, as JCU rode to an impressive 15-3 lead at the intermission.

The Blue and Gold continued to fire on all cylinders carrying their 8-0 run into the second half. JCU established a 5-0 run to begin the second half, showing no signs of letting up. Freshman Brendan Whitty tied his season high in goals during that run, scoring three straight goals to contribute to the Blue Streak lead. Calhoun contributed to two of Brendan Whitty's three goals, assisting on back-to-back scores.

At the end of the third quarter, JCU held a comfortable 20-3 lead.

JCU slowed offensively in the final quarter, scoring the final five goals of the contest. Wilmington was shutout in the second half.

With 2:47 remaining in the contest, sophomore Matt Karzak's goal broke the record for most goals scored in a game in team history, with the 25th goal of the match.

JCU held Wilmington's Jhordan Lang, one of the top scorers in the conference, to only one goal in the match

Defensively on the day, JCU only turned the ball over 13 times, which 10 less than Wilmington's 23. They also successfully cleared 16 of their 18 attempts.

Freshman Brendan Whitty lead all scorers with five goals, as it was a great day for the Whitty brothers. Brendan's brother, senior RP Whitty, tallied a career-high four goals as the Whittys combined to score nine of JCU's 25 goals.

Senior Logan Calhoun contributed a team-high seven points for JCU, scoring two goals and collecting a career-high five assists.

On the defensive end, the goalkeeper duo of senior Will Good and junior Jacob Betz collected five saves on eight shots faced.

The Blue Streaks dominated on the field and in all categories on the stat sheet in the match, gathering 45 ground balls to WC's 25. The Blue Streaks also won 23 of the 32 faceoffs in the 60-minute span.

The Blue Streaks will host the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night in a conference showdown. Following Saturday's matches, both teams sit undefeated atop the OAC. JCU is undefeated in three games against BW, winning last year's contest 10-8.
