Aggressive Schedule Pays Off As Blue Streaks Beat Baldwin Wallace For 23rd Consecutive Conference Win

Box Score Losing three starters from last year's Ohio Athletic Conference championship team was going to be a difficult obstacle to overcome for the John Carroll men's tennis team.

The first test of the new line-up on the conference level would be against crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace Saturday morning at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion at Cleveland State. The Yellow Jackets were 9-2 and had just lost a 5-4 decision to another contender for the crown, Mount Union.

Using a 2-1 advantage in doubles play as the springboard, the Blue Streaks won their 23rd consecutive OAC regular season match by a 7-2 count over Baldwin Wallace.

Box Score

Andy Siciliano and David Sinense set the tone with an 8-0 win at #2 doubles, and was followed across the finish line by the #3 tandem of Adi Jha and Tyler Cole, who won by an 8-5 score.

The #1 double match looked disastrous for John Carroll as the Blue Streaks duo of Dillon O'Brien and Gustavo Garcia fell behind 6-1. But a furious rally forced a tiebreaker, where the Yellow Jackets top team of Dominic Polifrone and Matt Harris eventually prevailed by a 7-3 score.

In singles play, Siciliano was once again dominant, closing his #4 match out 6-0 6-0. Scott Adsit was strong as well, winning 6-2 6-2 at #6 singles.

JCU secured the win when Sinense emerged with a 6-1 6-2 win at #2 singles.

Tyler Cole won the only other match that finished, beating his opponent at #3 singles by a 6-3 6-2 count.

There were retirements at #1 and #6 singles, one by each team.

John Carroll is now 4-7 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. JCU went 2-7 against a host of Division II and nationally ranked Division III teams in it's non-conference schedule to prepare for OAC play.
