Blue Streaks Bow To Hope College In First Round Of NCAA Women's Tennis Championship

Box Score The John Carroll women's tennis team fell to Hope College Thursday afternoon by a final score of 5-0 in a first round match-up of the NCAA Division III Championship played at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.

Hope, ranked 10th in the Central Region according to the latest ITA/Oracle Division III rankings, got out to a quick 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles competition. The final point was secured when the Flying Dutchmen duo of Erin LaBarge and Natalie Rahrig edged Jennifer Stroyne and Alyssa Krupp, 8-6, in the #3 doubles match.

In singles play, Hope needed two victories to close out the match, and got them in the #2 and #3 matches. Regionally ranked Claire Hallock beat Madisyn Rini 6-1, 6-4 in the #2 match to put Hope ahead 4-0, and the match ended when Taylor LaBarge closed out Nicolette Bourlas 6-0, 7-5

Lauren O'Malley at #1 and Molly Traverso at #4 were leading their respective matches when Hope earned the decisive fifth point.

The match was moved indoors due to rain.

With the loss, John Carroll ends the 2017-18 campaign with an overall record of 18-7.
