The John Carroll Blue Streaks could never get off to a good start in any of the three games they played Friday evening against host Case Western Reserve University, and it cost them dearly.
Despite being the hosts of the CWRU Invitational, the Spartans were not interested in being hospitable as they handed the Blue Streaks a 25-18, 25-17, 25-11 loss at Hosburgh Gymnasium. JCU never led at any juncture during the match.
Case Western prevented the JCU attack from getting any footing, registering ten blocks as a team while limiting the Blue Streaks to a .070 attack percentage.
John Carroll was paced by
Cassi Calamunci, who recorded a team-best nine kills.
Ally Bartolone had a team-high 13 assists while
Caitlin Cianciolo was solid on defense with 17 digs.
Audrey Hardig had two of John Carroll's four service aces.
The Blue Streaks, whose modest two-match winning run came to an end, fell to 3-2, while CWRUÂ improved to 3-2
