John Carroll Sweeps All Swimming Races To Defeat Mount Union In Home Opener

Last year, John Carroll had to squeeze every point out of every race to fend off Mount Union at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships to retain the crown a third consecutive year.

In a dual meet held Saturday at the William H. Johnson Natatorium, there was hardly a drop of drama.

John Carroll won every swimming race staged in rolling to a 205-75 victory over the Purple Raiders.

Results

To start the meet, the "A" relay team of Katelyn Avenir, Gwyn Ledrick, Tori Vale and Ashley Lynch team of won the 400 Medley Relay. Their winning time was 3:42.95.

The "B relay would touch in second as Spencer Kale, Ynyra Bohan, Shelbi Shearer, and Maddie Panus touched the wall in 4:12.33.

Lauren Spence touched first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:28.48. Shortly after Paige Wnek claimed third with a time of 11:51.09.

Spence also touched first in the 500 Yard Freestyle, coming in at 5:32.74.

Lynch took the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:01.28.  

Going 1-2 in the 100 Yard Backstroke, Kale and Vale finished with times of 1:02.97 and 1:04.26, respectively. Also going 1-2 was Bohan and Yoos in the 200 Yard Butterfly -- Bohan finishing with a time of 2:15.40, and Yoos swimming in at 2:19.23.

In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Ledrick took first, finishing in 1:05.09, and Shearer took third with a time of 1:13.26.

Finishing with a 1-2-3 punch in the 50 Yard Freestyle was Gwyneth Hamilton with a time of 25.69, Panus with a time of 26.41, and Olivia Talamo with a time of 26.47.

Taking the top three places in the 200 Yard Backstroke was Felice Ferrante (2:20.27), Kale (2:21.81), and Avenir (2:22.22).

Ledrick won the 200 Yard Breaststroke, coming in with a time of 2:22.55. Shearer took third with a time of 2:38.74.

Rachel Halapchuk and Bohan went 1-2 in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing closely with times of 1:02.42 and 1:02.50, respectively.

Maddie Dolce touched first in the 400 Yard IM, finishing with a time of 4:56.88.
 
Carroll's "B team" (Lynch, Hamilton, Yoos, Ledrick) came in first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:42.27.  The "A" relay was second as Halapchuck, Vale, Kyleah Gaydos and Panus clocked in at 1:45.22.

JCU now owns a 2-0 regular season record. Their next meet will take place on Saturday November 9th at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio at 1:00 PM.
