The John Carroll University football team had 12 players selected to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team including four first team honorees, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Senior defensive linemen Conner Bogard leads this year's winners with his third consecutive first team All-OAC recognition.

Bogard was a valuable asset for the Blue Streaks, finishing second on the team with a career high 62 total tackles. Opposing quarterbacks had to keep a close eye on Bogard, as he recorded 3.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss and finished second on the team in quarterback hits (6). He also had two forced fumbles and finished with six in his career — which ranks third all-time at John Carroll.

The defensive tackle also finishes his JCU career ranked seventh all-time in quarterback sacks and tackles for loss.

For the second straight year, junior running back Mike Canganelli and senior linebacker Chad Stalnaker were also elected to the first team.

Canganelli rushed for 902 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He also added value in the passing game with 114 receiving yards and a touchdown score.

Additionally, Canganelli scored a career-high three rushing touchdowns and season-high 156 rushing yards against Capital on Oct. 12. He finished this season tied for fifth all-time in rushing touchdowns and No. 10 in rushing yards. He also eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards and 3,000 all-purpose yards.

Stalnaker put an exclamation point on his Blue Streaks career, registering a career-high 74 tackles in nine games and 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He also added a pair of pass breakups and quarterback hits.

Senior defensive linemen Tyler Frederick improved upon his second team all-conference selection from a year ago with a first team nod this season. He started the year strong with 11 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in week one against UW-Stevens Point — all career highs. Frederick finished 2019 with 53 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, and five sacks.

In addition to the first team honorees, John Carroll had three players voted onto the second team offense and second team defense.

On offense, senior wide receiver Evan Nugent garnered his first career OAC honor by leading the team in receptions (30), receiving yards (614), yards per reception (20), receiving yards per game (61), and touchdown receptions (8).

Nugent recorded a career high nine receptions and 138 receiving yards against Heidelberg in a 17-13 win. His best stretch of the season came in weeks five through eight when he collected seven receiving touchdowns and 364 receiving yards.

Junior offensive tackle Blake Herideen improved upon his sophomore year selection by being selected to the second team this season. Fellow offensive tackle freshman Will McGennis was also named to the second team in his first season as a starter.

Herideen and McGennis were instrumental to the success of the Blue and Gold offensive line that only allowed 1.8 sacks per game and rushed for 172 yards per game.

For the second consecutive season, senior defensive back Tyshawn Jones was named to the second team. Jones was a turnover machine for the Blue Streaks with two forced fumbles and two interceptions. He also added 40 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and five pass breakups.

Jones added to his career record totals of 26 passes defense and nine interceptions, which rank eighth and No. 10 in the JCU record books respectively.

Junior Cal Reynolds and sophomore Nate Leopold earned their first ever second team recognition.

Reynolds dominated with 10 sacks which ranked No. 19 in the nation and second in the conference. He also added a team-best 14.5 tackles for loss and seven quarterback hits.

The sophomore, Leopold, displayed all-around player on defense. In his second season, Leopold collected 53 total tackles, a team-best eight pass breakups, four tackles for loss, and two interceptions.

Rounding out the honorees for the Blue Streaks are two first time selectees in senior defensive back Ariel Jimenez and junior defensive linemen Harrison Richardson. Both players were recognized as honorable mention.

Jimenez, from Belen Jesuit in Florida, was second on the team with 27 solo tackles. He added three pass breakups and an interception.

In his first season as a starter, Richardson finished second on the team in tackles for loss (10.0) and sacks (5.5) as a junior. He led the defensive line with 20 solo tackles.

Richardson's selection rounds out a Blue and Gold defensive line that has had all four starters honored by the OAC the past three seasons.

The Blue Streaks concluded their season on a seven game win streak and with an overall record of 9-1. Their lone loss came against then-ranked No. 2 Mount Union, currently ranked No. 1, in week three. JCU has now finished 9-1 in back-to-back seasons under head coach Rick Finotti.
