The Blue Streaks had a lot to accomplish against Muskingum.
They were looking to stay undefeated at home, undefeated in the OAC, and get their coach,
Kelly Morrone, her 101st career win.Â
They checked all three tasks off their to-do list by beating the Fighting Muskies, 81-52 at the DeCarlo Varsity Center. on Saturday afternoon.
JCU has now won a program-record 18 consecutive games at home. The previous record was 12, set over the course of the 2014-15 season. JCU has not lost at home since a 59-53 setback to Oberlin on November 17, 2018.
It was a back and forth first start to the game, with John Carroll not gaining a lead on Muskingum until the end of the quarter. Muskingum scored six points before junior
Abby Adler put John Carroll on the board. Fellow junior,
Nicole Heffington, added two more points to try and tighten the deficit.Â
The Blue Streaks came out hot in the second quarter, knowing they had some catching up to do. Using the first quarter to fuel their hustle,
Nicole Heffington,
Dani Carlson,
Olivia Nagy, and
Sarah Sprecher all added points to capture the lead going into halftime, 35-28.Â
Leaders for the Blue Streaks at half time were Sprecher with 14 points on the offensive side and Heffington and Nagy tied with seven rebounds each. Nagy also had three blocks.
John Carroll found its stride and could not be stopped in second half. The third quarter was the decider, as JCU outscored Muskingum, 22-8.
Nagy ended the game with 15 rebounds, 15 points, and five blocks, while Heffington lead the way in points with 18 and contributed nine rebounds overall.Â
With this win, John Carroll moves onto 7-1 this season and 3-0 in conference play. The Blue and Gold will next face Oberlin College on December 28th at 5:00 pm in Columbus, OH.
