Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lightning Fast Start In Opening Quarter Propels Women's Basketball To Sixth Consecutive Win

Oberlin was the last team to beat John Carroll at home. Since that loss, the Blue Streaks have reeled off a program-record 18 consecutive wins at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

Today's rematch was not in University Heights, but JCU played like it had a bone to pick with the Yeowomen for last season's lone home defeat.

The Blue and Gold raced out to a 22-4 lead in the opening quarter, and was never threatened in posting a 66-33 victory over Oberlin in the first day of the 2019 Marriott Columbus Airport Holiday Tournament hosted by Capital University in Bexley, Ohio.

John Carroll, which currently ranks 10th in the nation in scoring margin (+23.1), did nothing to harm that ranking this evening. The suffocating defense in the opening ten minutes limited the Yeowomen to 2-15 shooting (.133) from the field. Dani Carlson led the way on offense with a perfect quarter, going 2-2 from the field 1-1 from three-point range, and 2-2 from the free throw line for seven points.

With its sixth consecutive victory, John Carroll improves to 8-1 on the year. Of the six wins in the current streak, four (including today's) have been by 20 or more points and all six have been by double figures.

For the game, John Carroll shot 24-57 (.421) from the field, and 7-18 (.389) from three-point range.

Olivia Nagy led the charge with 19 points on 8-14 shooting from the field. She also made all three of her free throw tosses. Carlson added a double-double with 16 points and ten boards, while Nicole Heffington led all players with 11 rebounds and six assists.
