Wire-To-Wire Win For Women's Basketball Delivers 100th Career Victory For Coach Kelly Morrone

John Carroll went wire-to-wire with the lead and remained undefeated at home and within the Ohio Athletic Conference with its 70-48 victory over Marietta Saturday at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The win over the Pioneers gave Head Coach Kelly Morrone 100 career wins with the Blue and Gold. 

"When you get 100 wins, it is the grit and grind," Morrone commented. "It is the dirty work that no one really sees."

The fuel for the Blue Streaks offense throughout the whole game was courtesy of senior Sarah Sprecher shooting 3-3 beyond the three point arch after the first quarter.

"It's really awesome," Sprecher remarked "It's [my] senior year and I am just trying to go out with a bang and win every game we can." 

Sprecher finished the game with a career high 20 points, six of which were three pointers.

The Blue and Gold got off to a swift start against the Pioneers in the opening moments of the first quarter, the Blue Streaks were able to get off to a n 8-0 start and never looked back.
 
Sprecher hit two back to back three pointers early on, as well as one late into the first quarter. John Carroll's offense dominated Marietta in the first quarter finishing with a 25-13 lead.

The Blue Streaks maintained a double digit lead over the Pioneers after the first by a score of 41-25. 

Leaders for the Blue Streaks at halftime was Sprecher with 12 points and on the defensive side Nicole Heffington with five rebounds. 

Mariettas comeback was shut down soon after outscoring the Blue Streaks 8-0 after coming out of their locker room. Abby Adler ended the scoring streak with a crossover two point jumper making the score 43-33. 

John Carroll's offense continued to control the rest of the third quarter maintaining the lead by a score of 58-37. 

In the fourth and final quarter, John Carroll put the finishing touches on their victory. JCU limited the Pioneers to 11 points in the final ten minutes.

"I work with the best in the world," Morrone said of her staff and players. "I was impressed with not only their execution but their heart and hustle."

Sophomore Olivia Nagy had her third consecutive double double consisting of 10 points and 10 rebounds along with four assists and four blocks. 

Dani Carlson contributed 10 points, as well as Heffington's efforts on the boards for the Blue Streaks with six rebounds.

Following the victory, the Blue Streaks move to 6-1 on the season and remain undefeated in OAC play (2-0).

"We have to keep working," Sprecher remarked when asked about the outlook on OAC play. "We have Muskingum next and we need to take it one game at a time."

 In the Blue Streaks' next game, John Carroll will face OAC opponent Muskingum in a matchup at the DeCarlo Varsity Center on Dec. 14 at 3:00 p.m.
