Senior
Lauren O'Malley continues to make history this season as she became the first John Carroll University and Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) women's tennis player to advance the the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships.
After advancing past the round of 16, #6 seed O'Malley was matched up against top seed Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico of Emory University. Although she managed to win the second set, O'Malley fell short 6-4 7-5 6-0 to conclude her run.
After dropping the first set, O'Malley came back in the second. With the score tied at 3, the senior pulled away to take the set 7-5. This did not sway Gonzalez-Rico, however, as she took the momentum and pulled away to win the third set and take the match.
O'Malley ends her senior campaign with a final record of 24-2 in singles play, entering today on a seven-match win streak. Her loss against Gonzalez-Rico was her first since facing Danna Taylor of Carnegie Mellon University back in April.
Through her four seasons as a Blue Streak, O'Malley holds a 110-9 record, making her the program and conference leader for career wins. She was also the first OAC women's tennis player in conference history to record 100 victories.
