Conner Bogard and
Chad Stalnaker were selected to the D3football.com 2019 preseason All-America team as announced by the website today.
Bogard was named to the first team, while Stalnaker was tabbed for the third team.
This is the second consecutive year in which Bogard was honored on the preseason squad. John Carroll's only preseason D3football.com All-American selection in 2018, Bogard lived up to the billing and earned third team All-American accolades
In his junior season, Bogard amassed 56 tackles, of which 14.5 were for a loss. Included in that total were 8.5 sacks, bringing his career amount to 16.5 career sacks -- 8th all-time in John Carroll's history. Bogard is a two-time first team All-OAC performer and has also been named All-North Region twice.
Bogard was also listed as a preseason Division III All-American in two publications - Lindy's Sports and Street & Smith's.
Stalnaker was a third team All-North region honoree in 2018. Also a first team All-OAC selection last season, Stalnaker led the Blue Streaks with 71 tackles, of which 6.5 were sacks. He also recovered two fumbles (both returned for touchdowns), and added two interceptions.
Both are returning starters from a JCU defense which led the nation in sacks per game and wer ranked among the top 30 in Division III for rushing defense (10th), total defense (24th) and scoring defense (29th)
This is the 20th time D3football.com has named a preseason All-America team.
