Senior leadership is often best set by example.
Scoring twice and assisting on a third was
Jaclyn Audino's way of leading by example Saturday afternoon at Buffalo State as John Carroll rolled to a 3-0 win at Don Shula Stadium.
The victory improved John Carroll's home record to a perfect 3-0 to start the 2019 campaign.
A dominant first half in which John Carroll outshot the Bengals, 11-0, yielded just one goal. That was Audino's first, as she followed in a
Brittany Dufalla shot that caromed off the cross bar for the opening salvo at the 9:09 mark.
Although play evened out in the second half (JCU's shot advantage was a more modest 10-7), the Blue Streaks struck twice more. In the 67th minute, a play started by Macey Malinki found Audino on the right side, who centered a pass to a waiting Dufalla who beat the keeper at the left post.
Audino put the finishing touches on the win when she beat the defense on a through ball by
Claudia Lenhart, and then beat the keeper to the spot where she was able to lift a shot over a diving Taylor Carillo in the 81st minute.
Mackenzie Stease, John Carroll's freshman keeper, made her first collegiate start and earned her first career win and shutout, making two saves.
JCU improved to 3-2 overall while Buffalo State's modest three-match winning streak came to an end. The Bengals are now 3-4.
