Former John Carroll University men's basketball head coach
Mike Moran has been elected into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, and will be part of the 18-member class of 2020 that will be formally inducted on June 6 in Columbus.
The Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame will recognize coach Moran prior to the start of the home men's basketball game at John Carroll on Saturday, January 18, against Capital University. Crusaders head coach Damon Goodwin, Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame Executive Director Sheila Fox, and Founder Doc Daugherty will be on hand to present Moran with a certificate honoring his impending induction.
In 25 seasons as the Blue Streaks' mentor, Moran guided teams to ten Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season titles and four conference postseason championships. Moran won 460 games at John Carroll, which makes him not only the winningest coach in program history but also one of just three OAC coaches to surpass 450 career wins. He also earned OAC Coach of the Year six times.
On a national level, Moran took 12 teams to the NCAA Division III Championship tournaments, with the best showing in 2004 when the Blue Streaks reached the national semifinals and finished third in the nation. He also had two Elite Eight appearances (1998 and 1999) and three sweet 16 appearances (2005, 2007, 2009).
Prior to his 25 years of excellence at JCU, Moran was the boys basketball head coach for 11 seasons at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. He put together a record of 224-53 and guided the Vikings to nine district championships, four regional titles and a pair of state championships.
The 2020 Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame induction will take place on Saturday, June 6th at the Downtown Columbus Hyatt Regency.
