Blue Streaks Defeat College Of Wooster To Earn Fifth Consecutive Conference Victory

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The John Carroll Men's Basketball team returned to their home floor for their second matchup of the season against the College of Wooster.

This group continued to keep the momentum rolling as they would earn their fifth-straight win by a final score of 91-78, moving to 7-3 in NCAC play and 15-4 overall.

Even though it wasn't the greatest shooting night, the team was able to maintain their lead throughout the game and cause Wooster to give up 17 turnovers, which helped the offense find their rhythm.

The highlight of the night was John Carroll's bench, recording a total of 23 points on the night to help boost the playmaking.

JCU started off on a high note, coming right out of the gate with a jump ball assist from Sean Collins to Aidan Fitzgerald to create that spark for the offense.

Wooster was able to keep within reach early, but a key three-pointer by Jack Zapolnik allowed the Blue Streaks to stretch their lead to seven points. A Kyle Irwin three-pointer allowed JCU to lead by 13, followed by a Sean Collins dunk to force the first timeout of the game for Wooster.

From then on, it was all John Carroll, earning a 21 point lead towards the end of the first half.

In the second half, opportunities started to open up even more for JCU, continuing to allow several players to get involved throughout the half, which led them to build upon their lead.

Senior Sean Collins was all over the floor tonight, picking up seven rebounds, two steals, and nine points. He continues to be someone that Pete Moran has leaned on for this season, continuing to make plays on the board for the Blue Streaks day-in and day-out.

The two biggest stars of the night were Luke Chicone and Kasey Hunt. They both fed off each other in key moments of the game that led to them both scoring 20+ points for the group.

With Chicone's 27 points, he is now seven points away from recording 1500 total points as a Blue Streak player; a tremendous feat for the senior out of Mentor, Ohio only adding to his stellar resume. Luke was also 61.1% from the field, earning seven rebounds and eight assists.

Kasey was lights out as he managed to earn 23 points, going 10-16 on field goals (62.5%) with three rebounds and assists.

Players such as Brandon Rose and Jack Zapolnik provided that support for the starting five, contributing to their bench scoring total and making plays throughout the game.

Rose would earn nine points as he was the third-highest scorer for the Blue Streaks with two steals in 12 minutes with Zapolnik scoring six points and earning one assist.
