14 Athletes Named All-Great Lakes Region For Winter Track And Field

Four athletes on the Men's side, and 10 athletes on the Women's side were recently rewarded All-Great Lakes Region honors.

Deven Ward, Hayden Snow, Cory Minton, and Ian Pierson represent the men's side. Courtney Phoennik, Lucia Cannata, Sara Johnson, Maria DeLuca, Cameron Bujaucius, Autumn Hale, Nikki Linn, Amy Morris, Taylor Anthony, and Mary Claire Smeltzer represent the women's side. 

Deven Ward was awarded All-Region in three events: Long Jump, 60m Dash, and 200m Dash. Ward finished top 3 in every event he participated in this season. He broke the 200m record this season, and currently owns the 60m Dash record as well. He won the 55m Dash and 200m OAC titles, and was awarded OAC Sprinter of the Year.

Hayden Snow was awarded All-Region in the Long Jump. He currently owns the school's Long Jump Record, and third finished third in the event at the OAC Championship.

Cory Minton was named All-Region in the Triple Jump. He finished second in the event in the OAC Championship.

Ian Pierson was named All- Region in the 800m and Mile. Pierson broke the school record in both events this season, and finished first in the 800m at the OAC Championships, and was awarded OAC Distance Runner of the Year. 

On the Women's side, Courtney Phoenikk, Mary Claire Smeltzer, Autmn Hale, and Amy Morris were named All-Region for their efforts in the 4x400m relay. This team ran a time of 4:05.06 and finished second at the OAC Championship. Courtney Phoennik also was named All-Region in the Triple Jump. She finished second in the event at the OAC Championship, and held the school record at one point this season.

Maria DeLuca was awarded All-Region in the Triple Jump as well. She won the OAC Championship in the event, and currently holds the JCU record with a jump of 12 meters. 

Lucia Cannata was awarded All-Region in two events: 60m Dash and 200m Dash. She broke the school record in both events, and won the OAC Championship in both events.

Taylor Anthony and Sarah Johnson also were named All-Region in the 60m Dash. Both were heavy contributors to the team all year and finished top 5 at the OAC Championship.

Nikki Linn was named to the All-Region team for her efforts in the High Jump. The only event she participated in this season, she has mastered her craft to multiple victories throughout the season, including a OAC Championship title.

The final member on the All-Region team to represent JCU is Cameron Bujaucius in the 5K. She battled through injury and sickness throughout the year to post her personal best 17:32.75.

Congratulations to all athletes on this great accomplishment, and to Coach Kyle Basista. The next track and field events will be the indoor National Championships March 13th and 14th.
