Women's Soccer Slides to Road Loss at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio -- John Carroll and Ohio Northern entered Saturday's women's soccer match at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of momentum.

The Polar Bears came in red-hot, with a 5-match unbeaten streak and a 4-match winning streak, all in shutout fashion. Meanwhile, the Blue Streaks entered on a 3-game slide.

It was status quo on Saturday, as the hosts kept their shutout streak alive, dealing the Blue Streaks a 1-0 defeat.

Despite the different records, it was a closely contested game the whole way through, as JCU pitched a fierce battle.

Danielle DelGiudice turned away the first shot on goal of the game in the 12th minute. Twelve minutes later, John Carroll earned its first shot on goal of the contest, as Brittany Dufalla put on bottom center that was saved.

Ohio Northern managed a corner kick and then a shot in the 32nd minute. The Polar Bears tallied another in the 41st minute. Neither was successful.

At half, the score stood even at 0-0.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes of the second half, Ohio Northern ramped up the pressure. A corner kick led to the first and only goal of the game at 57 minutes exactly. Tara Morris slotted it into the net for the Polar Bears. Emma Bowman got the credit for the assist.

With 33 minutes left to even things up, John Carroll got to work, looking for the game-tying goal.

The next bit of game did not see any shots, until Kennedy Newhart tallied a shot in the 70th minute. But ONU's Kristy Catrine provided an answer, keeping the hosts in the lead.

From there on out, neither team managed to hit the net with a shot. So, the Polar Bears hung on for a 1-0 victory.

For the game, Ohio Northern enjoyed an advantage in shots, 10-4, and in shots on goal, 4-3. DelGiudice earned 3 saves on the day for JCU. Newhart, Dufalla, and Juliana Kontul all managed shots on goal.

With the defeat, JCU drops to 6-8-1 on the year. The Blue Streaks head to Berea to do battle with Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday.
