Men's Soccer Unleashes Scoring Floodgates in 2nd Half to Best the Berg

TIFFIN, Ohio -- On Wednesday night, the John Carroll University Men's Soccer team learned that patience and persistence pays off.

Under the stadium lights at Hoernemann Stadium, the Blue Streaks got back to their winning ways, capturing a 4-0 victory against the Student Princes of Heidelberg.

After 63 minutes of scoreless play, JCU's perseverance played off as James Hoover found the back of the net and opened the floodgates for the Blue and Gold.

"Tonight was another big road OAC win," said JCU Head Coach Dejan Mladenovic. "We struggled to find our rhythm in the first half, but our substitutes came up huge for us to get us back on track and help us create chances in the final third and find the back of the net. Their impact on the game was massive."

Within eight minutes of each other, John Carroll's dominant offense recorded three consecutive goals in the second half.

At the beginning of the game, the Blue Streaks' offense came out strong, firing shots within the opening minutes of the contest.

Throughout the first half, the Blue Streaks continued to dominate and possess the ball most of the half, but unfortunately could not find the back of the net.

The Blue and Gold outshot the Student Princes, 8-0, with five shots on goal in the first half.

Coming out of the locker room, the high-pressure offense remained consistent for the Blue Streaks as their persistence and patience paid off.

The freshman offensive force, James Hoover, led the offense in the first half with three shots. Hoover's hot shooting eventually paid off, as he found the net for the match's first goal off a low left shot in the 66th minute.

Soon after, the Blue Streaks struck again. Will Turrittin capitalized on a penalty kick, giving the Blue Streaks the go-ahead 2-0 lead nearly three minutes after Hoover's goal.

The Blue Streaks scoring fun continued with Benjamin Hryszko finding the back of the net off of a pass from Turrittin. The goal was Hryszko's seventh of his season. The scoring did not end there.

In the 85th minute, Michael Burrington hit the back of the net off of a low left shot, putting the Blue and Gold up 4-0.

John Carroll outshot the Student Princes, 19-2. Hoover led the team in shots with five, followed by Ianiro with four.

With the win, John Carroll improves to 9-3-4, 6-0-2 in OAC play.

The Blue Streaks will finish their regular season play on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Don Shula Stadium against the Wilmington Quakers (11-1-3, 4-1-2, OAC). Prior to the 7:30 p.m. senior night kickoff, the Blue and Gold will honor their senior class.
