Women's Cross Country Tabs 3rd in Great Lakes Regional Championship

SHELBYVILLE, Indiana -- On Saturday afternoon, the reigning 2019 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Champions, came up short in the 2021 NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional Championship. 

On Saturday afternoon, the Blue Streaks finished in third place at the Regional Championship courtesy of a 125-point finish. 

Above the Blue Streaks was Hope College (98 points) and Calvin University (121 points), resulting in first and second place finishes, respectively.

"Our women went for it and we were winning early on in the race," noted John Carroll's Head Coach Kyle Basista."They ran extremely gutsy and that was by far their best race of the season. We will need to wait a day to confirm the bid for the national championships, but we are in a very good spot."

John Carroll finished as the top Ohio Athletic Conference team with Ohio Northern being the closest with a seventh-place finish, followed by Mount Union with an eighth-place finish. 

Junior Erica Esper led the way for John Carroll's third place finish with a 22:32 performance in the 6K. 

Right behind Esper, 2019 All-Region runner Cameron Bujaucius finished two seconds behind with a 22:34 time in the race. 

Senior Rory Virgrass captured a 25th place finish via her time of 22:49, while Sydney Jenko finished in 30th place courtesy of a 22:53 finish. 

Sarah Weldon, Marie Pinzone and Moira Anderson also competed for the Blue Streaks this afternoon and contributed to their third place finish.
