The Blue Streaks' grapplers put on a strong showing at Trine.
ANGOLA, Ind. -- John Carroll University Wrestling enjoyed a nice day at the Trine Invitational on Saturday.

With a host of exceptional wrestlers in attendance, the Blue Streaks performed quite well.

The day was highlighted by excellent efforts by Andrew Perelka, Jarrod Brezovec, and Luke Reicosky. All three finished the day 4-0 and finished first in their respective weight classes. Jesse Kanatzar also won his bracket and finished 3-0.

Competing at 133 lbs, Perelka only wrestled for five minutes and 56 seconds on the day. He received a medical forfeit when his second opponent did not show up for the match. He won two matches by fall (4:15 and 0:38) and won his finals match by injury default 1 minute and 3 seconds into the match. He was also the 2019 Trine Invitational Champion at 125 lbs.

Brezovec was dominant in four wins at 141 lbs (16-0, 2-0, 13-0, and 13-3) to win his second Trine Invitational Title. He is now 5-0 on the season and has outscored his opponents 59-3.

Reicosky won three matches by decision (3-1 SV, 6-2, 5-1) and one match by fall to win the 157 lb title.

Kanatzar won the 197 lb title in his first tournament as a Blue Streak. He pinned his first opponent in 55 seconds then won the semifinals 10-8 with a takedown in the last ten seconds of regulation. The Tallmadge native won his finals match 9-2.

Freshman Daniel Devera was 2nd at 174. His finals match was a hard fought 6-5 loss to two-time All-American Ben Sarasin of Chicago. Patrick McGraw was 4-1 on the day to finish 3rd at 165.

Kale Buckiso (149) and Brody Arrundale (184) both finished in 4th place with 5-1 records. They were unable to compete in their 3rd/4th match due to an NCAA rule that limits wrestlers to only 6 matches in one day.

Adam Salek (165), Stefan Farian (174), and Anthony Rizzo (184) all placed 5th in their weight class, while Kyle Murray (133), Matt Whipkey (157), and Connor Bizjak (285) placed 6th.

"It was great to compete in a tournament again and see guys wrestle multiple times in a day," said Head Coach Mark Hawald. "Our veterans got the job done, we have some promising youth, and everybody in between continues to improve."

The Blue Streaks will get back to work with a busy week ahead. Hawald's squad will be ready to face off with Otterbein on Tuesday. The JCU Duals will follow next Sunday. Both events will be held in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
