Men's Swimming & Diving Honors Seniors with a Huge Victory

| By:
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio --  On an afternoon filled with energy from Senior Day, the John Carroll University Men's Swimming & Diving team left it all in the pool.

"The energy on the pool deck was at an all-time high today," Head Coach Tanner Barton said. "What we have happening inside of our natatorium is special."

Special indeed. The Blue Streaks beat Ohio Northern by a score of 188-105 on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the William H. Johnson Natatorium in University Heights. The team improved to 4-0 on the season in Coach Barton's first at the helm.

Starting off the day in the 200 Medley Relay, the Blue Streaks' A and B relays finished first and third. The A relay, consisting of Liam McDonnell, Austin Davis, Michael Heller, and Adam Lenz, won the race with a time of 1:35.72, while the B relay finished not too far behind with a time of 1:43.12.

In the 1650 Free, Aidan O'Neill (17:10.31) placed second while Nick Mudry (17:10.86) finished milliseconds behind in third in the mile.

The Blue Streaks swept the top three spots of the 200 Free, as Westin Fishel (1:47.34) won the event. Teammates Jacob Farr (1:47.49) and Michael Heller (1:48.71) finished second and third, respectively.

The team's dominance continued into the 100 Back with Liam McDonnell (52.05) bringing home a victory. Forrest Campbell (52.84) finished second and River Flatley (54.63) placed third. Austin Davis (1:00.21) and Adam Lenz (1:00.55) notched second and third in the 100 Breaststroke.

In the 200 Fly, Erik Sriubas (2:01.45) rapidly made up ground and managed to finish second while Ben Rancillo (2:02.77) placed third.

Forrest Campbell turned on the speed in the 50 Free and finished with a time of 22.02. Westin Fishel (22.09) and Jake Farr (22.69) rounded out the top 3.

In the 1M Diving event, Jack Lausin placed first with a score of 228.00. Christian Litwinowicz finished with a 156.55 to place third.

Lausin (215.05) was victorious in the 3M Diving event as well, while Litwinowicz (172.75) placed third.

Michael Heller dominated in the 100 Free, winning with a time of an even 48 seconds. Adam Lenz (48.65) and Westin Fishel (49.94) finished in second and third place.

Jonathan Simoes (1:55.51) placed first in the 200 Back, which was a result of his work ethic.

According to Coach Barton, the staff has "spent time in practice working on his [Jonathan's] underwater dolphin kicks, and it was great to see his hard work pay off this afternoon".

Liam McDonnell (1:57.35) placed second and River Flatley (1:58.49) finished third in the event as well.

For the 200 Breaststroke, Austin Davis (2:13.97) finished in second place, less than half a second off the lead.

Erik Sriubas (5:02.15) and Jonah Venos (5:03.68) finished second and third in the 500 Free.

Similar to the duo's excellence in the 100 Back, Liam McDonnell (51.89) and Forrest Campbell (52.48) finished first and second in the 100 Fly.

Dane Bozsvai (57.78) finished second in the 100 IM.

To cap off a spectacular afternoon, the Blue Streaks' A team won the 200 Free Relay in impressive fashion. The team, made up of Forrest Campbell, Michael Heller, Austin Davis, and Westin Fishel, posted a time of 1:26.49. The Blue Streaks' B team (1:31.60) finished third in the event.
