Blue Streaks Drop Two Tight Matches Against Polar Bears

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - After a great set of Blue Streak kills, John Carroll heads into the first timeout of the night with a 13-8 lead. The Blue Streaks take set 1 with a final score of 25-13.

In the second set, the Polar Bears started off hot which led to a timeout taken by the Blue streaks after trailing 6-12.

The front set for the Blue Streaks helped narrow the lead to within 6 as the Polar Bears continued to lead by six with a score of 20-14.

The second set saw multiple back and forth battles between both teams. The Polar Bears took the second set with a final score of 25-18.

In the third set, the blue streaks began with a 7-3 early lead as the Polar Bears called a quick timeout. 

After the timeout, a kill by Kailee Herbst set up the Blue Streaks for a five point lead.

Freshman Jenn Folmer had a kill midway through the third set, which was followed by an Allie Baretelone point right off her own serve which led to a point for the Blue Streaks.

The Blue streaks continued to lead as a long battle led to a kill by Cassi Calamunci which hyped up the team and the crowd leading up to the final points for the Blue Streaks. They took set three 25-15. 

Blue Streaks hang on close but lose this set to the Polar Bears in an exciting ending to a set which ended 25-23.

It was a back and forth battle in the final set of game one. The Polar Bears seemed to have the edge at the beginning of the set as they scored 11 points. The Blue Streaks would go on to lose this set and game one. 

The first game went to a full five sets, with the Blue Streaks losing in a very close final set 15-9. 

After the break, the Blue Streaks looked to even the series for the night.

The second game was filled with four total sets, with every team only losing by 2 points throughout the game. 

The Blue Streaks lost the first two sets. They went onto win set 3. 

Junior Cassi Calamunci had a total of 15 kills, many of which came in the second game. 

The final set the Blue Streaks were able to keep close, but fell short in the end. 

The Blue Streaks fell to the Polar Bears in both contests.

Taking a look at the stats, the main disparities between the two teams were Ohio Northern's 11 blocks to the Blue Streaks three. In addition, the Polar Bears had a hit percentage of .178 while JCU posted a .152 percentage. These two stats can be seen as the difference makers in this match as ONU went on to outscore the 75-64 in total points throughout the match

The next match for John Carroll is home this Tuesday, March 30th, against Baldwin Wallace.
