OAC Changes Cancelation Protocol and Alters 2022 Tournament

| By:
JCU Men's Basketball's three COVID-19 cancellations will no longer count as conference losses.
WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- On Tuesday morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference Presidents Council made some adjustments to the conference's COVID-19 policies.

The Presidents Council has decided that OAC contests canceled due to COVID (across all sports) will be considered a "no contest" for conference standing purposes. This is a change from the previous policy, in which the team responsible for the cancelation was charged with a conference loss.

This action is retroactive to the beginning of the winter sport seasons. So, all of the previous basketball forfeits marked as 2-0 games now become no contests. Those contests will still not be rescheduled.

The Presidents Council also made adjustments to the 2022 OAC Tournament. The formula used to determine the 2021 conference tournament seeding will now be used again in 2022. All ten basketball teams will make the 2022 OAC Tournament. The tournament will open with the No. 10 seed playing at the No. 7 seed and the No. 9 seed playing at the No. 8 seed on the Monday of tournament week. On Tuesday, the No. 8/9 winner plays at the No. 1 seed, the No. 7/10 winner plays at the No. 2 seed. The No. 3 seed plays the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed plays the No. 5 seed as normal. Semifinals will be on Thusday and the championship will be on Saturday.

Following the conference's decision, the JCU Men's Basketball team has a 1-2 record in OAC play (the team's 6-4 overall record is not affected). JCU Women's Basketball team has a 4-1 record in OAC play (the team's 9-2 overall record is not affected).
