Women's Basketball Cruises Past Capital in Saturday Road Affair

BEXLEY, Ohio -- Entering the game as the leaders of the Ohio Athletic Conference, No. 8/10 John Carroll Women's Basketball hoped to continue their stellar season as they took on the Capital Comets in the Capital Center.

The Blue Streaks cruised to a 74-41 victory over Capital on January 29. The win improved their record to 15-2 on the season, 9-1 in OAC play.

The Blue & Gold started out strong and fast, racing out to a 17-4 lead in the first period. More of the same took place in the second quarter as JCU led at the half 46-18.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Blue Streaks hit on 7-of-14 three-pointers and forced 14 turnovers, both of which were keys to their early success. Also of note, Olivia Nagy added to her memorable John Carroll legacy by recording her 300th career block near the end of the first half.

JCU's bench also performed well by scoring 24 points in the first half, highlighted by ten from Kaelyn Underwood.

The second half proved to be more competitive, as both teams saw every player earn time on the floor. The Blue & Gold won the third quarter, 14-8, but Capital admirably won the fourth quarter, 15-14, as JCU won by 33.

The Blue Streaks ended up forcing a total of 26 turnovers and scored 29 points off of said turnovers. Underwood led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Nagy and Nicole Heffington with ten points apiece. Nagy also added a team-leading eight rebounds and four blocks.

With the win, JCU improved their record in games at Capital to 5-33. Up next, John Carroll will face Heidelberg on Wednesday, February 2 in Tiffin.
