Comets Soar Past Women's Soccer at Don Shula Stadium

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- The cruising Comets of Capital University faced off against the John Carroll University Blue Streak in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer match.

John Carroll Women's Soccer was defeated by Capital, 3-0, on Oct, 22 at Don Shula Stadium in this OAC contest. Capital's Avery Hart stole the show with a hat trick under the lights.

The Blue Streaks drop to 7-8-2 on the season, 3-4 in the conference play, bringing them below .500 on the season after their 4th straight loss.

The first half saw plenty of 50/50 balls in the first couple of minutes. The deadlock ended at the 11th minute mark.

Avery Hart, Capital's senior leader, scored the first goal of the game. The veteran beat a JCU defender and right-footed a marvelous shot into the top left corner. It was a great play to break the ice for Capital.

That would be all the scoring in a quiet first half, as JCU and Capital's defenses held up a wall between each other bringing the score to 1-0 at half.

The second half saw John Carroll's offense have a tough time getting past the Comets defense despite their best efforts.

On the defensive side, John Carroll's defense experienced difficulty against a driving Capital offense that was frequently in the driver's seat. The Capital offense notched 21 total shots on goal for the night.

Avery Hart, the driver of her team, carried the Comets to victory, scoring not one but two goals in the second half. She's built her resume as one of the most dominant players in the OAC as she added another hat trick on the season.

Both second-half goals, one in the 56th minute and one in the 89th minute, were hard strikes. Hart's talents were on full display.

Although it looked like a one sided battle on the stats sheet, John Carroll stayed with Capital and never surrendered.

Tonight marked the last home regular season game for the Blue Streaks and the 40th meeting between these two OAC rivals. Capital owns the series advantage, 23-11-6.

Next up the Blue Streaks will travel to Alliance, Ohio to face rival Mount Union on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 pm.
