Women's Swimming & Diving Breezes Past Purple Raiders

ALLIANCE, Ohio – As John Carroll Football dueled Mount Union at Larry Kehres Stadium, JCU Women's Swimming & Diving was shining in the pool. 

The Blue Streaks breezed by the Purple Raiders on Saturday, 196-102. 

With the victory, JCU advances to 2-0 in dual meets, both Ohio Athletic Conference meets. 

The fun began in the 400 Medley Relay. Maddie Panus, Regan Gunzy, Olivia Goodman, and Mairin Dalziel combined for a dominant win. The quartet won with a time of 4:12.55. JCU also took second, as Lauren Koppelmann, Allie Geletka, Bella Genise, and Mary Hoffman combined for a time of 4:18.63.

Lauren Spence and Maddie Jarosz followed with the 100 Free, clocking in at 12:01.49 and 12:14.23 for respective third and fourth place efforts. Dalziel returned to the pool in the 200 Free, scoring second with a time of 1:58.11.

Koppelmann roared for a victory in the 100 Backstroke. The rookie captured first in the event with a mark of 1:01.95. Panus followed closely at 1:03.06 for second. 

John Carroll fired off a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 Breaststroke. Regan Gunzy took the cake with a victorious time of 1:12.42. Geletka finished just two seconds later for second at 1:14.42. Bojena Gross wrapped up the sweep with a time of 1:16.79. 

Gwyneth Hamilton won the 50 Free in a photo finish. The reigning OAC Swimmer of the Year touched the pad at 25.31 for the crown. 

The Blue Streaks did not win the 100 Free, but they did the next best thing with a 2-3-4 finish. Dalziel, Hoffman, and Hamilton turned in respective times of 55.24, 56.20, and 56.33 for JCU. 

Koppelmann got JCU back on top soon thereafter in the 200 Back, conquering the competition with a time of 2:14.76. 

In the diving, the Blue Streaks showed up well. Catherine Steinwachs led the way with a second-place finish for JCU's six divers in attendance with a 1 Meter score of 159.15. Kathryn Visco followed in third with a score of 131.90. In the second session, Steinwachs won with a score of 198.15, with Sarah Hanlon notching second with a time of 189.50. 

The top three of the 200 Breaststroke were all Blue Streaks. Gunzy guided the trio with a time of 2:41.81. Gross garnered a time of 2:42.69 and Kaitlyn Hilty rounded things out with a time of 2:44.03. 

Dalziel followed up that feat by scoring first in the 500 Free. The freshman cruised to a clear win with a time of 5:29.96. Fellow freshman Olivia Goodman also earned a win, scoring first in 1:01.81. Anna Glass came in shortly after with a silver time of 1:02.28. She won yet again in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.50. Hilty (2:25.33) and Audrey Prisby (2:25.98) snagged second and third. 

John Carroll completed the day with the 400 Free Relay win. Panus, Koppelmann, Geletka, and Rachel Halapchuk scored the victory with a time of 3:58.95. 

John Carroll is back in action in a couple weeks at the Kenyon College Invite.
