Women's Basketball Staggered in First OAC Road Game of the Season

BEXLEY, Ohio — Playing on the road in the Ohio Athletic Conference is always tough, especially with a young team.

John Carroll Women's Basketball learned the lesson in the team's first OAC road match of the season.

The Blue Streaks suffered a 74-48 defeat at Capital on Saturday afternoon.

The first quarter was a close affair, as the Comets only snuck ahead, 13-12, by the end of the first. Halle Landies and Ava Ryncarz helped lead the offense.

Capital pulled ahead more in the second quarter. An 11-point run to start the stanza by the Comets and strong Capital defense did the trick. A late Landies driving layup narrowed the margin to 29-22 at half.

The Comets burst out of the locker room on a roll, hitting a 3-pointer to set the stage for a 17-4 run. So, at 4:09, the Blue Streaks took a timeout with a daunting 46-26 deficit.

Try as they might, the Blue Streaks could never get within striking distance, as Capital's lead did not drop below 19 points.

John Carroll shot just 31.3%, including 2-for-15 from behind the arc. Capital shot 42.4%, corralling seven 3-pointers. The Comets won the battle of the boards, 50-38, and outscored JCU in the paint, 38-30.

Landies was the sole Blue Streak in double figures, with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Ryncarz topped the team with 9 rebounds.

John Carroll will take a respite during finals week before another tough road trip next Friday to Marietta.
