Women's Track & Field Starts off 2022-23 Campaign with Success at Spartan Lidlifter

The Blue Streaks' sprinters especially excelled on Saturday. 
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Blue Streaks started off strong in the indoor track & field season on Saturday. 

With several top five finishes and a lot of depth, the upcoming season is looking bright for JCU. 

John Carroll University Women's Track & Field opened up their season at the 9th Annual Spartan Holiday Lidlifter on Saturday. 

The Blue Streaks were led in the weight throw by Kelsey Dunn, who finished in 4th place with a distance of 14.64m, just 0.13m away from her career best. Brooklyn Beekford and Cara Jewett came in 10th and 13th place, respectively, with distances of 12.37m and 11.89m. Jewett's 12.37m was a new personal record. Emily Blasko and Grace Fritsch also had solid showings. They recorded respective distances of 10.74m and 10.55m. 

Ella Zambruno performed well in the long jump with a distance of 4.51m. Sara Hogan was right behind her with a distance of 4.35m. Zambruno and Hogan are both freshmen who were competing in their first college meet. 

Caroline Beery took home first place in the pole vault with a height of 3.50m, which was a new personal record and school record for the Upper Arlington native. Leah Fritsch also competed in the pole vault and secured third place with a height of 3.20m. Meredith Glavach finished in fifth place after putting up a height of 3.05m. 

The Blue Streaks continued their strong showing into the high jump. Michaela Bryan locked up second place with a 1.50m jump. Sarah Shreffler also competed in the event. She recorded a 1.45m jump which was good enough for fifth place. 

Dunn and Sarah Hart both finished inside of the top ten in the shot put. Dunn recorded a distance of 10.25m and Hart was right behind her with 10.17m. Beckford also competed in the event and tallied a 9.89m throw. 

The triple jump event saw yet another Blue Streak finish in the top three. Victoria Miller came in third after posting a jump of 10.77m. Olivia Stefka and Hogan finished in eighth and ninth places respectively after recording jumps of 10.14 and 10.00m. 

In the 60m hurdles, freshman Rosie Murray came in fifth place after posting a time of 10.03. 

Murray had another strong showing in the 400m dash with a second-place finish and a time of 1:04.95. Kaleigh McNamara, Mia Scott, Paige Munchick and Laney Karpowicz were the four other Blue Streaks that competed in this event. They finished in 6th-9th places. 

Taylor Anthony brought home the second top finish for the Blue Streaks in the 60m dash with a time of 7.89. Anthony crossed the line 0.28 seconds before the second-place runner. Scott also ran the 60m and posted a time of 8.46. 

Anthony continued to find success on the track in the 200m dash. She finished in second with a time of 27.53. Sarah Saad also ran the event and posted a 28.46, which was good enough for an eighth-place mark. 

The 4x400m relay team of Munchick, McNamara, Murray and Zambruno finished in fourth place. They posted a time of 4:30.46. 

The Blue Streaks have the YSU Collegiate Holiday Classic on the slate before Christmas break.
