UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- As the winter sports season winds down, the John Carroll University Athletics will compete in some of their final matches and games of the season before the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.

The teams will be spread around the region as they prepare for this higher level of competition.

Men's and Women's Track and Field
Traveling all around Northeastern United States, the John Carroll Track and Field teams will be represented in four meets in just two days.

The Blue Streaks will send eight distance runners to compete on Friday, February 11 in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. Jamie Dailey, Barrett Scheatzle, Andrew Miner, Jared Arnold, Cameron Bujaucius, Sydney Jenko, Erica Esper, and Rory Vigrass will all race the 5k in Michigan on Friday.

Ian Pierson, Garrett Clark, Caleb Correia and Alex Phillip will compete in the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12. This meet features incredible talent from across the country, and will be a heck of an opportunity for the team. The Distance Medley Relay will be especially fun to watch.

A large portion of the team will head to Berea for the BW Mid-February Invite. The Blue Streaks will look to earn some nice results, especially for the significant contingent of throwers competing.

On Saturday, much of the squads will head to the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Otterbein. The JCU Men will be repped significantly in the throws, with a few distance runners and several sprinters heading to Westerville.

Men's Swimming and Diving
The Men's Swimming and Diving team will be sending three swimmers to the Ohio State Winter Invitational in Columbus, Ohio to compete against top competition on Friday, February 11 at 11 a.m.

Adam Lenz, Michael Heller and Westin Fishel will represent the Blue and Gold in the final meet of the season before the OAC Championships on February 17-19.

Women's Basketball
The Women's Basketball team will compete against the Ohio Northern Polar Bears on Saturday, February 12 at 2 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Blue Streaks will be looking for a big win after their heartbreaking 57-52 loss on Wednesday, February 9 against the Otterbein University Cardinals.

Snapping the Blue and Gold's 10-game win streak, the Cardinals went on a 12-0 scoring spree in the fourth quarter to take the lead 52-46 with under a minute left. John Carroll did not give up, though, as senior Sarah Balfour knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to cut Otterbein's lead to two points with less than 30 seconds remaining, but it still wasn't enough to overtake Otterbein.

Senior star Olivia Nagy finished the game with a team high of 16 points, a game high of 16 rebounds, a season high of nine blocks, and also added four steals. Balfour chipped in 13 points off the bench, her third straight game in scoring double-figures.

Men's Basketball
Looking to catch fire before the Ohio Athletic Conference playoffs, the Men's Basketball team will compete on Saturday, February 12 at 4 p.m. against the Ohio Northern Polar Bears in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center following the Women's Basketball game.

In another close battle, the Blue Streaks came up short (79-73) against the Otterbein University Cardinals on Wednesday, February 9 after a late comeback by John Carroll. Hugh Brown and Mason Trubisky provided the defensive momentum for the Blue and Gold in the second half, allowing John Carroll to get within two points of the Cardinals. A late scoring outburst from Otterbein kept the Blue Streaks out of reach of the victory as they dropped to 7-12 on the season.

Jackson Sartain and Trubisky led the team with 15 points each, while Hugh Brown added a solid 13 points for John Carroll.

Women's Tennis
Starting their spring season this weekend, the John Carroll Women's Tennis will first host Shawnee State University at Paramount Tennis Club in Medina on Saturday, February 12. John Carroll will then head to Wooster to compete in a challenging pair of matches with Carnegie Mellon University and The College of Wooster on Sunday.

Men's Tennis
The John Carroll Men's Tennis squad will kick off the spring season this weekend. The Blue Streaks will host Shawnee State University on Saturday, February 12 at Paramount Tennis Club. The Blue & Gold will have lots of great veteran talent and should be in good shape for a nice start to 2022.

Wrestling
Coming off of a momentous victory against the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders, the John Carroll Wrestling team will host the annual JCU Open on Sunday, February 13 starting at 10 am.

This will be the final regular season competition for the Blue and Gold as they get ready for regionals in late February.

ACHA Club Hockey
In the final weekend before the CHMA playoffs, the John Carroll Club Hockey team will travel to Pittsburgh, PA on Friday, February 11 to take on Duquesne University, before returning home for the last game of the season on Saturday, February 12 against Mercyhurst University for their senior night.
