Women's Tennis Utilizes Depth in Narrow Non-Conference Loss to DePauw

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- In one of the final non-conference matches of the regular season, John Carroll Women's Tennis drew upon its depth on Sunday.

The Blue Streaks utilized a different-than-normal lineup without top player Megan Reese. Despite the missing pieces, the Blue Streaks still put up a great match indoors at Cleveland State.

But in the end, the DePauw Tigers still managed to upend the Blue & Gold, 6-3.

Caroline Chandler and Morgan Little assumed the No. 1 doubles slot for the first time all year, and fought hard. But the young duo couldn't upend DePauw's best in an 8-4 loss. Emily Duckett and Jaclyn Voss also formed a new duo at No. 2, and experienced a similarly narrow defeat, 8-7. Anna Vitale and Peyton Crumpler teamed up at the final doubles position, and drew an 8-4 defeat.

All of JCU's wins came in the singles, as JCU split the six matches and nearly stole a couple more, too.

Mia Zivkovic rose to No. 1 singles, and played to a 7-5 defeat after a whale of a first set. Unfortunately, the sophomore ran out of gas in the second set, losing 6-0. Morgan Little ascended to the No. 2 spot and garnered a win via a 6-0, 6-1 conquest.

Caroline Chandler kept the train rolling at No. 3 singles, roaring to a 6-2, 6-3 conquest.

But the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches went to DePauw, allowing a Tigers win. Voss lost at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1, and Crumpler lost at No. 5, 6-1, 1-6, 5-10. Crumpler's match was particularly promising, as despite the tiebreaker loss, it's a good result for the freshman.

Anna Vitale secured her first win of the 2022 campaign at No. 6 singles. The junior conquered her foe via a 6-3, 6-1 affair.

John Carroll now looks ahead to conference play on Saturday, as the Blue Streaks will do battle with Mount Union, looking to ascend above .500 again.
