Matthew Russo Garners First Career OAC Athlete of the Week Honor

One outdoor meet, one OAC Athlete of the Week honor for Russo. 
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Matthew Russo has earned his first-ever Ohio Athlete Conference Athlete of the Week award.

Russo garnered the honor after his exceptional performance in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, which took place this past weekend in Pittsburgh. 

This was the Blue Streaks' first outdoor event for the season. Russo placed third in the shot put with a toss of 14.83m. 

In addition, Russo was able to log a toss of 37.92m in the hammer throw. 

Back during the indoor season, during the OAC Championships, Russo finished 13th in the shot put with 13.16m, and 22nd in the weight throw. His best indoor shot put flew 15.11m and his best indoor weight throw was a 14.92m. 

Before coming to John Carroll, Russo was the fourth-best Discus Thrower in the state of New York in 2021, with a school record of 173'1"

Along with being on the Track & Field team, Russo is also a part of the John Carroll Football team. The freshman from Depew, New York intends to major in Chemistry.
