Men's Tennis Opens OAC Play with Dominant Win over Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- In a long-awaited return to conference play, John Carroll Men's Tennis reigned victorious.

The Blue Streaks cruised past the Purple Raiders in Alliance on Wednesday, 9-0.

The sweep broke a 4-game losing streak for the Blue & Gold, getting the team back on track heading into the meat and potatoes of the schedule.

In doubles play, Gustavo Garcia and Mark Beebe paired up well at No. 1 singles. The veterans fired off an 8-2 conquest at the top spot.

At No. 2, Grant Sarnowski and Nathan Palinkas sawed through their foes, earning an 8-0 victory. Kevin Wacnik and Sean Padden also played near flawlessly, firing off an 8-0 win.

Garcia held down the fort at No. 1 singles for JCU. After a narrow 6-4 set one win, Garcia took less time in the second set with a 6-0 win. Beebe fired through his match quickly at No. 2, rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 conquest.

At No. 3, Wacnik opened with a 6-3 win in the first set before catapulting to a 6-0 win in the second set. Meanwhile, Sarnowski achieved a double bagel at No. 4, with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Alvaro Rosabal shined at No. 5 singles, carding a 6-1, 6-0 win. Isaac Palinkas made his season debut at No. 6, earning a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.

John Carroll will have a quick turnaround, as they plan to play at Capital on Friday.
