Weekend Wrap for Men's Track & Field: Distance Runners Shine in Tune-Ups

Phillip & Dailey are one of just two combinations in D-III history to run under 14:10 in the same season.
By John Carroll Men's Track & Field standards, it was a light weekend for the Blue Streaks.

But despite the relatively light action, it was a good weekend for the Blue Streaks. John Carroll enjoyed nice action, especially on the distance side of things.

Here's what happened this weekend as the Blue Streaks prepped for the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship next week.

Penn Relays
The Distance Duo did it again on Thursday.

At the prestigious Penn Relays in the 5000m, Alex Phillip and Jamie Dailey set the show on fire. Phillip raced to a time of 13:58.78. That ranks him first in all of NCAA Division III and eighth all-time in NCAA D-III history. He's just the second D-III runner ever to run under 14 minutes in both indoor and outdoor 5k races.

Dailey propelled himself to an outstanding time of 14:08.22. In addition to it being a major personal record, the time launched Dailey into third in Division III in the 5k.

Dailey & Phillip are one of just two combinations in D-III history to run under 14:10 in the same season.

Yes, Phillip and Dailey are set for the big stage.

Walsh Invitational
The Blue Streaks obliterated the competition in the 5000m. Ian Pierson took the limelight with a winning time of 14:53.09. Cormac Peppard-Kramer finished less than a second behind for second with a time of 14:53.31. Dominic Delmoro dashed to third in 15:04.02. Tommy Naiman (15:24.87) and Matt Costanzo (15:35.50) also made the top 10. Jack Root tabbed 11th at 15:39.64.

Ethan Domitrovich starred in the 800m for JCU. The sophomore stood out with a strong time of 1:55.02, winning the day in the event. Gabe Ernest followed his lead with a fourth-place time of 1:56.07. John Shoemaker also snuck into the top 10 with times of 1:57.31. Making the top 15 were Michael Hvizdos (1:58.67), Pat White (1:58.85), and Evan Piscitani (1:59.33). Jared Arnold (1:59.42), Ryan Champa (1:59.86), and James Mangan (2:01.37) got into the top 20. Additionally, Andrew Miner set a PR with a time of 2:04.09 and Ryan Kiley hit a time of 2:11.01 and Joe Scherer hit 2:16.36.

The 1500m race was chock full of Blue Streaks. Guiding the pack was Caleb Correia with an eighth-place time of 4:04.44. Andrew Miner followed closely with a PR of 4:05.01. Joe Scherer won his heat with a time of 4:17.34. Ryan Kiley clocked in at 4:22.93.

Adam Shah and Carson Shipley combined to make a formidable duo in the 3000m Steeplechase. Their Steeplechase openings went well, with very nice times of 10:05.09 and 10:06.29 for fourth and fifth place.

Noah Schroeder and Alec Gorman competed in the hammer throw. Schroeder tallied a toss of 41.06m, while Gorman notched a PR of 35.90m.

Ashland Alumni Open
Garrett Clark tuned up nicely for next week's action. The veteran nabbed second in the 200m with a time of 21.76. Clark qualified for the 100m finals with a time of 10.79 but did not race in the final.
