Volleyball Keeps the Train Rolling at Marietta with a Nice Sweep

MARIETTA, Ohio — The red-hot John Carroll Volleyball team kicked off Ohio Athletic Conference play with a clean sweep against Marietta College.

The Blue Streaks fired through the Pioneers in identical scores of 25-18 each set.

Cassi Calamunci led the charge for the Blue Streaks, totaling a team-high 13 kills on 32 total attacks and four assists.

The Pioneers kept the first set close early on with a tie game at 14. But JCU quickly found a spark on offense, collecting 11 points from a slew of kills from Steph Conley, Ally Bartolone, and Calamunci.

Set two followed suit, with both teams continuing the back and forth battle. This time, however, Marietta would make a few costly errors that John Carroll was able to quickly capitalize and turn into another victory.

Even with a 2-0 advantage, the Blue Streaks roared out of the gates in the third set looking to put away the Pioneers. JCU jumped out to a sizable lead, 16-9, midway through the final set.

Marietta attempted a last-minute comeback, but John Carroll's frontline overpowered the Pioneers. The night was capped off with a kill from sophomore Marissa Lynch to close out the match.

Lynch finished with seven kills, three in the final set.

With tonight's victory over the Pioneers, JCU extends their win streak to five matches, winning 15 consecutive sets during the stretch. The last time the Blue Streaks had two winning streaks of 5+ games in the same season was in 2014.

The Blue Streaks will host Allegheny College tomorrow at the DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7 pm.
