UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On Fall Preview at John Carroll University, the Blue Streaks faced the Capital Comets in a Senior Day matchup.

On a day full of celebrations, the Blue Streaks were able to add a win for the five seniors to take home.

John Carroll won by set scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21.

To begin the match, a service ace from senior Maddie Maziarz started the John Carroll lead. Thanks to the early jump, the Blue Streaks remained in control for the rest of the set. Seniors Payton Miozzi and Lexi MacDonald aided in the first set effort with a combined 8 digs. Multiple blocks from Kendra Dziubinski shut down any advances from the Comets. Set one ended with a score of 25-13.

In the second set, Steph Conley, Jessica Liddle, and Natalie Glowe stepped up for the Blue Streaks offensive, earning a combined total of 9 kills. Despite such a strong offensive presence from John Carroll, an energized Capital team took and held the lead throughout the second set.

The Blue Streaks kicked things into a higher gear, taking the first 11 points of the third set. Maddie Maziarz continued to be a steady presence on the court, saving multiple rallies with unbelievable digs and consistently setting up her teammates for nice attacks.

In a long set point rally, Payton Miozzi kept it alive with an outstanding dig, which set up Hailey Williams to close it out with a hot kill, her third of the match. John Carroll won by a wide margin of 25-16 in the third set.

The fourth set was a constant battle for the lead, with Capital tying the set up at 16-16, but the Blue Streaks never relented. Marissa Lynch tallied multiple kills in the fourth set with each of them assisted by Maddie Maziarz.

A solid block from the Jennifer Follmer & Jessica Liddle duo fired up the Blue Streaks, providing the team with a burst of energy that pushed them to regain the lead. Ultimately, a kill from Follmer sealed a fourth set victory with a score of 25-21.

On the defensive side, seniors Payton Miozzi, Lexi MacDonald, Ellie Schenk and Maddie Maziarz ended the match with a total of 45 combined digs. Senior Jennifer Follmer led the team in kills this afternoon with 11 and Maddie Maziarz set a new season-high with 33 assists.

Post-game, Jennifer Follmer talked about how team chemistry and playing together pull them together to take home a senior-day win.

"It's always hard to play on a day dedicated to you but all of them showed out," said Follmer. "I'm really proud of all of our seniors who played today. Maz and Lexi always have great games, Ellie and Payton came in and played well, too.

The Blue Streaks improve to 14-8 on the season overall, including 4-3 in conference play. This Wednesday, John Carroll will travel to Alliance, Ohio to face another conference opponent Mount Union.
