Fast Start Propels Men's Swimming & Diving Past Polar Bears

The Blue Streaks roared past the Polar Bears to make up for a defeat at ONU a couple years ago.
ADA, Ohio – The last time the Blue Streaks raced in Ada, an unbeaten streak of Ohio Athletic Conference meets was broken.

Today, the Blue Streaks told a completely different story.

On Saturday at Ohio Northern, the Blue Streaks kicked off OAC action with a bang, rolling to a 180.5-107.5 victory. 

Results

A fast start keyed things for John Carroll. Forrest Campbell, Bart Kubis, Bryce Liddell, and Owen Holm combined to win in a photo finish, touching the wall at 1:35.75 to edge out Ohio Northern. The first individual race of the day also boded well. Aidan O'Neill conquered the 1000 Free with a mark of 10:30.71, while Jacob Burton earned second in 10:32.35.

The 200 Free and 100 Backstroke also yielded victories. In the 200 Free, Joe Nadur tore through the water with a mark of 1:46.67, followed by Dexter Zielinski in second place. In the 100 Back, Forrest Campbell and Luke Novak did the 1-2 honors, with respective times of 54.04 and 54.29. 

The success kept on rolling in the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Butterfly. Kubis claimed the conquest in the 100 Breast, besting his foe from ONU by a mere 0.15 seconds by clocking in at 1:00.03. Sam Kmet kept the freshmen theme rolling with a victorious time of 1:58.94 in the 200 Fly. 

Owen Holm tied for second place in the fast 50 Free race, clocking in at 21.60. Bryce Liddell snuck into fourth with a time of 21.62. JCU got a third-place finish in the 100 Free from Campbell next with a time of 48.16. 

Two wins followed in the 200 Back and the 200 Breast. Novak took the cake in the 200 Back, dominating the race with a clear winning time of 1:59.66. Nadur nabbed the win in the 200 Breast, earning the honor by five seconds with a time of 2:10.34. Kubis picked up nice points with a second-place finish. 

The Blue Streaks flexed their muscle next in the 500 Free. Kmet fired up a time of 5:01.64 for the victory, while Aidan O'Neill raced well in his second distance event of the day with a time of 5:05.65. 

The 100 Fly was a tour de force for the Blue Streaks. Liddell anchored the JCU trio that swept the race, clocking in at 51.68. Holm and Bailey Parsons completed the feat with times of 53.11 and 55.24. 

Joe Nadur capped off the individual events with a dominant showing in the 200 IM. The sophomore sensation clocked in at 1:57.09 for the win. Novak and Owen O'Neill completed the top-three domination at the top. 

To wrap the day, the Blue Streaks won the 400 Free Relay. Campbell, Liddell, Patrick Branch, and Holm combined for a nice feather in the cap win. The JCU quartet clocked in at 3:10.68,

With the OAC victory secured, the Blue Streaks will be back in the pool next weekend. John Carroll will welcome Mount Union to the Johnson Natatorium on Friday, celebrating the Home Opener in a 6 pm meet.
