CHARDON, Ohio – Following a busy weekend, John Carroll Men's Golf got right back to it on Monday morning.

Following a solid weekend, the Blue Streaks ascended to better results while hosting the John DiCillo Memorial Invitational at Sand Ridge Golf Course in Chardon. The sun shined much of the round, with a bit of chill but not enough to make you shiver consistently.

The John Carroll "A" team won the tournament with a team score of 299, getting the team trophy via the fifth man tiebreaker. A four-way tie ensued for the medalist honors, settled via a scorecard tiebreaker. Otterbein's Jake Morgan took the tiebreaker, and so Morgan took home a pumpkin with the likeness of the late DiCillo. (Closeup photo of the pumpkins here)

A fitting prize after a nice round of golf to bring back with you in the school van. The JCU "A" team won the other pumpkin, which will look nice in Coach Mike Moran's office (or in Candace Pluhar's office next to the 'Charlie Brown' trophy).

Zach Brinks captained the ship for John Carroll. The veteran opened with an even par 36 on the front nine, which included a nice birdie on the eighth hole. A birdie on the 14th hole aided his effort, as the St. Xavier grad played with a smile during his nice day. Brinks finished with a 1-over-par 73 to tie with Morgan, but lost out on a tiebreaker for the second time this season. Brinks is certainly enjoying a wonderful fall for JCU.

Kamden Mowry enjoyed a nice day on the course, too. The freshman started on the third hole with a birdie, later adding another on the sixth, 14th, and 18th holes. The youngster finished just behind his senior teammate with a 2-over-par 74, good enough for a tie for fifth place. It was another good outing and sign of things to come for the frosh.

Jack Gerborg and Austin Malley tied with identical scores at 4-over-par 76. Gerborg's day was highlighted by birdies on the fourth, 12th, and 17th holes, which are all par-3 holes. Malley, meanwhile, limited negative holes while tabbing a birdie on the 14th hole, a 540-yard par-5. The two tied for 12th with a few others.

Jacob Hazen rounded out the top group. The senior finished the day well, tabbing a birdie on the 15th, and a birdie on the third hole (his penultimate hole). He tallied a 78 for the afternoon.

John Carroll's "B" team finished in third place with a nice score of 309, showcasing the team's depth.

Grant Lumley anchored the squad, as the Johnstown, PA native glided through the course. Beginning on the seventh hole, the senior opened with a par and birdie for a fortuitous start. He stayed even-keeled all day, remaining composed despite a couple bogeys. Lumley carded a 1-over-par 73, tying for medalist honors but losing out on the pumpkin via the tiebreaker.

London Hoyser occasionally found himself in hot water, such as on the eighth hole. But after a drop placed him in the rough in front of the hole, Hoyser chipped it up, and the ball bounced off the pin and into the cup. It was a picture-perfect chip in, and a smile slowly spread across the freshman's face one he realized what he'd done. For the day, the freshman finished with a 5-over-par 77.

Daniel Donahue was the next finisher, notching a 79 for JCU, highlighted by a birdie on the third hole. Anthony Krakowiak got the final score, carding an 80. Carson Meyer rounded out the squad with an 82.

John Carroll will now have a few days off before returning to competition this weekend. On Sunday and Monday, the Blue Streaks will take part in the Wittenberg Classic to conclude the fall.
