Women's Basketball Falls to Puget Sounds in Hope College Tournament

HOLLAND, Mich. – Away from home and dealing with injuries, John Carroll Women's Basketball dropped its second loss in as many days.

In the first-ever hardwood showdown between John Carroll and Puget Sound, the Blue Streaks fell to the Loggers, 76-55.

With the loss at the Hope College Tournament, JCU drops to 2-2 early on in the campaign.

The Loggers fired out to a hot start. The Washingtonians roared to a 9-0 run to begin before JCU called timeout. Puget Sound kept pushing out of the break, firing out to 17-0 before JCU got on the board. The Loggers led after one quarter of action, 31-8.

John Carroll did outscore Puget Sound in the second quarter, 18-14. Abigail Rosol helped to power the comeback push with 5 points in the span of a minute. But the Loggers still stood ahead securely at halftime.

The Loggers continued to push ahead in the third quarter, leading by a bunch. For the second straight game, JCU outscored the foes in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to mount a comeback.

Halle Landies led JCU with 17 points, shooting 3-of-8 from three-point range. The veteran added 7 rebounds and 3 assists. . Maddie Pietrowski trailed closely with 15 points. Abigail Rosol and Kaylie McKenney tied with Landies for the lead with 7 boards.

The Blue Streaks will be back within the friendly confines of the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center next week. JCU will host Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday at 6 pm.
