Women's Track & Field Posts Strong Results Across 4 Meets

The Blue Streaks' pole vaulters looked strong in Berea.

With the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships just two weeks away, it's the time of year to prepare for the big show.

With that in mind, John Carroll Women's Track & Field ventured to a host of meets to prepare.

The Blue Streaks headed to Michigan, Boston, Berea, and Geneva for the weekend. Here's what transpired.

The weekend began with a morning running of the 5000m for the Blue Streaks on Friday.

Amidst top competition, Erica Esper ran a time of 17:58.05 in the 5k in Massachusetts.

GVSU Big Meet
Meanwhile on Friday, a pair of Blue Streaks headed to Allendale, Michigan for Grand Valley State University's Big Meet.

Claire Eberhardt competed in the 800m. The veteran notched a time of 2:18.51 for 26th place.

Abby Schroff also repped JCU in the state up north, taking part in the mile. The youngster tallied a time of 5:05.31, good for 24th. She cut time from her last running of the mile.

BW Mid-February Meet
John Carroll got some nice results in the field events across town at Baldwin Wallace on Friday evening.

Meredith Glavach tallied a PR in the pole vault, leaping to 3.25m. In doing so, she won the event. Leah Fritsch followed closely behind in second at 3.05m.

Olivia Stefka also enjoyed a marvelous day. The sophomore soared to a PR in the triple jump, leaping to first with a mark of 10.35m. Massey Andrykovitch tabbed fourth at 9.57m, while Sarah Saad made her TJ debut with a distance of 9.29m.

Kelsey Dunn and Cara Jewett starred in the weight throw. Dunn dashed to second place with a mark of 14.33m. Jewett achieved a personal best with a mark of 12.78 for fourth. Brooklyn Beckford tallied a PR, too. The freshman tossed a mark of 12.61m in the event for fifth. Beckford also notched a distance of 10.64m in the shot put.

Meanwhile, Sarah Hart tabbed a 11.88m in the weight throw and 8.81m in the shot put. Emily Blasko tallied a distance of 11.55m and Breanna Berwald hit a PR of 11.21m in the weight throw.

Michaela Bryan cleared 1.58m in the high jump for the first time this season, securing second place.

In terms of the track portion, wins by Ellie Kitsmiller and Genevieve Arnold marked a nice evening in Berea.

Ellie Kitsmiller led the charge for the JCU contingent in the 500m. In running the event for the first time in her JCU indoor career, she topped the field with a time of 1:21.79. Rosie Murray and Kaleigh McNamara completed a 1-2-3 sweep with times of 1:23.37 and 1:26.92. Mia Scott took sixth in 1:29.40.

Genevieve Arnold topped the pack in the 55m hurdles, firing out to a first-place time of 8.82 in the finals.

Katy Fellenstein tuned up in the 1000m with a time of 3:13.20 for second place.

Spire Collegiate Indoor Games
Ella Zambruno enjoyed a great day in her young career. She tallied a PR in the 60m with a time of 8.40 in the prelims. Zambruno achieved another personal best in the 200m with a time of 27.81. And in the long jump, she registered a jump of 4.71m, also a PR.

Sticking with the sprinters and jumpers, fellow speedster Taylor Anthony also finished just barely outside of qualifying range in the 60m, finishing ninth with a time of 7.94. In the triple jump, Genevieve Arnold finished just outside the top ten with a top leap of 10.80m.

On the distance side, Sarah Weldon looked good in the 3000m. The Hudson native shaved off nearly 13 seconds from the last time she ran the 3k, also at Spire a few weeks ago, with a mark of 11:04.82. Kathryn Vasiliauskas clocked in at 11:35.76.

In the mile, Sydney Wingler guided JCU's trio. The freshman finished with a time of 5:22.61 for 21st. Morgan Dobos ran the event for the first time in the Blue & Gold, wrapping up a time of 5:32.86. Cassie Klein finished the race in 5:42.07.
