Men's Tennis Defeats Mount Union in OAC Opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio – John Carroll Men's Tennis is back and ready for Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Last week over spring break, the Blue Streaks labored under the hot Orlando sun to challenge themselves against higher-level competition to prepare for conference season.

The Blue Streaks' striving paid off, as John Carroll defeated Mount Union in Alliance, 8-1.

Grant Sarnowski experienced a challenging match but got the job done at #2 singles, with a nice 6-4, 7-5 conquest. Logan Langovsky lived up to his top billing with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Anthony Markello snagged a 6-1, 6-0 #3 singles W, and Phillip Gorun worked for a 6-3, 6-4 win at the #5 spot. Luis Wentz rolled at #6 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

In the top doubles battle, Sarnowski and Markello needed a 7-5 tiebreaker but still tallied an 8-6 win at #1 doubles.

Langovsky and Nathan Palinkas worked together well in a #2 doubles win, 8-3. Gorun and Wentz also got the job done at #3 doubles by the same score.

Looking at the big picture, the win gets the Blue Streaks some huge momentum in the team's first match back in Northeast Ohio. The tally in the win column also opens OAC play with the win.

For Walt Oden, today provides a bit of extra exuberance. For the first-year JCU head coach, it's the initial win of his career.

Oden will hope to add another to his column on Wednesday, if Mother Nature allows for the home match against Ashland.
