4x100 Relay, Schroff, Kitsmiller Break Records During Harrison Dillard Twilight

The Blue Streaks put on quite a show in Berea on Friday.
BEREA, Ohio – Under the lights of George Finnie Stadium, John Carroll Women's Track & Field reveled in the limelight.

The Blue Streaks improved times and marked down new school records in the 800m, 1500m and the 4x100 relay in a strong showing in Berea on Thursday and Friday.

Without a doubt, the 4x100 relay stole the show. Genevieve Arnold, Mia Scott, Taylor Anthony, and Rosie Murray rocketed to a time of 47.10, a season best. Not only did the quartet cut 0.57 seconds, they also fired up the national leaderboard to 10th unofficially. That should be good enough for a trip to Rochester. And of course, that's a brand new JCU record, surpassing the previous standard of 47.66 recorded in both 2019 and 2021. Anthony was also on the 2021 relay that tied the mark.

On the mid-distance side, Ellie Kitsmiller led the JCU contingent in the 800m with an eighth-place mark of 2:14.23, which was also a PR. Kitsmiller also shattered the JCU record in the event, surpassing Claire Eberhardt's previous mark. Annie Higgins (2:19.19) and Morgan Dobos (2:20.29) finished just outside the top 10.

Abby Schroff tallied JCU's top time of the year thus far in the 1500m with a time of 4:36.37. And not only that, but the freshman is now the JCU record holder in the event. That's no small feat. The previous record holder is a familiar name to JCU Track & Field fans, as the mark belonged to none other than Hall of Famer Shannon McConville (4:36.57 in 2005).

Turning to the field events, Breanna Berwald was JCU's lone competitor on Thursday, hitting 34.67m in the discus. In the Friday field events, Tori Miller highlighted the day with a PR in the triple jump with a mark of 10.93m. That's the top mark by a Blue Streak this season. Olivia Stefka (10.20m), Sarah Saad (9.62m) and Massey Andrykovitch (9.42m) followed with top-10 marks.

Genevieve Arnold grabbed a top-10 finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.22m. Caroline Beery finished just outside the top 10 in the pole vault with a leap of 3.46m, as did Emmy Bryan in the high jump (1.54m).

In the sprints, Taylor Anthony shaved some time, finishing third in the 100m finals with a time of 12.12. That's a new event PR for the Massillon native. Paige Munchick came close to hitting a PR with a time of 17.61 in the 100m hurdle finals, good still for eighth place. Katy Fellenstein ran the 400m hurdles for the first time, finishing with a time of 1:10.98.

On the distance side, three Blue Streaks competed in the 3000m Steeplechase. Jen Massucci (11:27.70, 2nd), Sydney Wingler (11:37.02, 4th, and a PR), and Claire Eberhardt (12:18.32) repped JCU. In the 5000m, Sydney Jenko logged a second-place time of 17:56.62.

Ahead this week is the Mount Union Last Chance on Tuesday and Wednesday.
