Women's Basketball Cruises Past Raiders in Rivalry Conquest

ALLIANCE – How's that for a statement win?

John Carroll Women's Basketball roared past Mount Union on Wednesday evening in a dominant road victory. The Blue Streaks sprinted out of the gate and never looked back in an 82-59 conquest.

With the victory, John Carroll advances to 4-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

The road crowd did not affect the Blue Streaks too much at the start. By the midpoint of the opening quarter, the Blue Streaks constructed a 13-6 lead, with an Ava Ryncarz three-pointer juicing the visitors. Near the three-minute mark, a Brooke Laub triple stretched the margin to double digits at 20-8. Triples by Halle Landies and Ryncarz in the final minute doubled up the visitors entering the second stanza, 29-14.

The momentum didn't slow in the early going of the second quarter. John Carroll powered to a 14-2 run in the first 4:45 of the second, with Ryncarz doing much of the damage. Three-pointers by Brooke Laub and Maddie Pietrowski sure didn't hurt, either.  Bella Carcioppolo and Quinn Benchley got in on the fun late in the half, setting the margin at 50-20 in a statement first half.

JCU's 50 points marked the second-most in the opening 20 minutes this season, behind only a 52-point effort to start vs. Case Western Reserve.

Mount Union tried to fight its way back into the game in the third quarter. The hosts got out to a 5-0 start, though Landies responded with five points of her own. Mount Union chipped away a bit, but not past a 20-point deficit in the third quarter, still trailing JCU entering the final stanza, 67-47.

Rosol continued her breakout game in the fourth quarter, with back-to-back baskets. Carmen Heuker made her triumphant return late in the game, tallying JCU's final six points of the game. It was certainly great to see the Botkins native back in action for John Carroll.

Ava Ryncarz led all scorers with 20 points, but she was far from the only star. Abigail Rosol poured in a season best 13 points, also notching 7 rebounds in a complete effort. Give plenty of kudos to Maddie Pietrowski, too, with a nice 14 point, 7 rebound, 5 assist statline. And you can't forget about Landies, who fired up 12 points for John Carroll.

With this win in hand, the 9-5 Blue Streaks will return back home on Saturday. John Carroll will host Kids' Day in a conference showdown against Marietta College.
