BUFFALO – While Buffalo is a familiar place for plenty of John Carroll folks, Division I locales in the Queen City aren't often visited by the Blue Streaks.

But braving a snowstorm, John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving did just that, visiting Canisius University for the first time in program history (though this marked the fifth dual between the programs).

After a different storm last week forced a postponement, John Carroll made the trek to Buffalo on Friday to face an excellent foe in the Golden Griffins, which handed JCU a 172-106 defeat.

The challenge of a Division I opponent yielded plenty of promising results for JCU. Following a second-place effort in the 200 Medley Relay by Forrest Campbell, Joe Nadur, Bryce Liddell, and Daniel Argalious (1:34.46), the Blue Streaks got the first win of the night in the 1000 Free. Sam Kmet achieved a photo finish victory, with a time of 10:06.48.

Nadur followed up his relay effort with a third-place mark in the 200 Free with a time of 1:45.14. Later on, he added another third-place time in the 200 Breaststroke (2:07.38), plus a silver finish in the 200 IM (1:56.46).

Luke Novak later notched third-place tallies of his own with a time of 53.69 in the 100 Backstroke and then a mark of 1:59.85 in the 200 Back.

After speaking at Thursday afternoon's press conference, Daniel Argalious starred in the 50 Free on Friday evening. The sophomore snagged a time of 21.27 to take the win in the fastest event in swimming.

Bryce Liddell claimed a victory of his own in the 100 Free. The junior carded a winning time of 47.61.

John Carroll tallied a 2-3 finish in the 500 Free, with Jacob Burton and Aidan Hulseman doing the trick. Burton marked down a time of 4:58.54 while Hulseman clocked in at 5:03.16. Another 2-3 finish followed in the 100 Fly. Liddell and Campbell got the accolade this time, touching the wall at 51.89 and 52.59, respectively.

On the diving side, Jacob Clark turned in a solid effort, scoring second in the 1 Meter event with a tally of 123. Clay Bozsvai (89.63) and Andrew Chiappetta (83.33) earned points in third and fourth places.

John Carroll capped off the day with a conquest in the 200 Free Relay. Campbell, Liddell, Owen Holm, and Argalious combined for a time of 1:25.45 to score a victory.

Tomorrow, the Blue Streaks will be back in action. John Carroll will host Heidelberg University in the first meeting between the two teams since the Student Princes announced the return of swimming as a varsity sport (HU offered swimming in the early '80s). Jacob Clark and Nicholas Wilson will celebrate Senior Day at 12:45 pm before the meet.
