Volleyball Cruises Past Capital in Friday Night Road Action

BEXLEY, Ohio – Good teams can rebound from a defeat, and John Carroll Volleyball has proven to be resilient in this aspect this season.

The Blue Streaks quickly got back on track from a home loss a couple days ago, rolling by the Capital University in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-15.

The Comets managed to keep things close in the first two sets, but the Blue & Gold meant business in the third set in closing things out with authority. It was a fantastic offense that tallied a .360 hitting percentage that really stood out tonight for JCU.

Despite a pair of short runs, the Blue Streaks couldn't pull away from the Comets in the opener. Capital prevented JCU from going on any strong stretches, but it didn't matter, as the Blue Streaks still got the job done by avoiding errors and an efficient offense.

The story of the second set was an offense that wasn't merely efficient, but excellent. John Carroll tallied a whopping 20 kills. After Capital opened with a 3-0 start, the hosts did not again string more than two points together in a row. Both Mary Kate Sheehan and Abby Bednar tallied a trio of kills in quick succession, powering a front line that largely dominated on paper (0.444 hitting percentage).

John Carroll flexed its muscles plenty in the final set to finish off the Comets. The visitors burst out to a 7-2 start and never truly looked back. Natalie Glowe played a starring role in revving up the offense to a roar, as the Blue Streaks motored to a definitive 25-15 victory in the final set.

Abby Bednar was the perfect measure of the night, with 14 kills and a dynamite .462 hitting percentage. Mary Kate Sheehan didn't get into double digits but came close with 9 kills. Haley Nicholson fed the offense with 24 assists. Olivia Mogyordy topped the team with 17 digs, followed by Natalie Glowe with 14.

The victory marked JCU's 14th in a row over Capital in the series.
