Men's Swimming & Diving Picks Up OAC Victories over Mount Union and ONU

John Carroll earned two big OAC victories this weekend.
It was a very busy weekend for John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving.

On Friday, John Carroll beat Mount Union in Alliance, and then defeated Ohio Northern in Saturday's home debut at Johnson Natatorium. Here's our weekend recap. 

John Carroll: 128, Mount Union: 95

ALLIANCE, Ohio –
On Friday, the Blue Streaks traveled south to Alliance for a much anticipated matchup against the Mount Union Purple Raiders. 

Rivalry aside, the goal was simple for John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving, that being to take care of business and start the Ohio Athletic Conference schedule out with a win. 

The Blue Streaks accomplished their goal, defeating the Purple Raiders 128-95, improving to 1-0 and the young season. With the win, John Carroll secured their eighth consecutive victory vs. Mount Union, a streak that dates back to 2017. 

Results 

A quick start was crucial for the Blue Streaks. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, David Miller, Bart Kubis, Owen Holm, and Daniel Argalious delivered an impressive performance, winning the heat with a time of 1:35.41.

This success carried over into the second men's event, the 1000 Freestyle. Sophomore Sam Kmet claimed first place on the podium with a time of 10:19.48. Freshman Zach Marinis also shone in this event, finishing second in his first career OAC competition with a time of 10:21.45.

The Blue Streaks continued their dominance by finishing first and second in the 50 Free. Daniel Argalious secured the top spot with Dominic Falcon closely trailing to earn second place. Argalious swam a blistering 21.59 seconds, while Falcon impressed with a time of 22.10 seconds.

In the 200 IM, two Blue Streaks once again found themselves on the podium. Junior standout Joe Nadur triumphed in the heat with a winning time of 1:56.28, while his junior teammate Patrick Branch finished third with a time of 2:01.46.

John Carroll followed up the 200 IM with a commanding performance in the 100 Free. Bryce Liddell and Patrick Branch took first and second place, finishing just milliseconds apart—Liddell clocked in at 48.26 seconds and Branch at 48.53 seconds.

Perhaps the most remarkable moment of the evening occurred during the 200-yard breaststroke, where Blue Streaks swept the podium, taking first, second, and third places. Joe Nadur clinched victory with a time of 2:12.17, closely followed by first year Ian Hofmann in second at 2:12.25, and Bart Kubis securing third with a time of 2:13.96.

In the final event of the evening, the 200 Free Relay, the talented Blue Streak quartet—Dominic Falcon, Owen Holm, Bryce Liddell, and Daniel Argalious—concluded the night on a high note by winning their heat with a time of 1:26.14.

John Carroll: 153, Ohio Northern: 79

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS –
John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving dominated in a dual against OAC foe Ohio Northern, winning 153-79.  Fans and athletes alike showed out to support Breast Cancer Awareness on Saturday afternoon.

Results

The afternoon jumped off to a quick start in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where JCU delivered a quick 1-2 punch. Finishing first with a time of 1:34.93 was the team of David Miller, Bart Kubis, Bryce Liddell, and Daniel Argalious. Finishing a close second with a time of 1:36.45 was the team of Luke Novak, Ian Hofmann, Owen Holm, and Dom Falcon.

In the 1000 Free, sophomore Sam Kmet cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 10:16.47, trailed closely by sophomore Jacob Burton (10:30.36). The 200 Free also saw great performances from the Streaks, with Owen Holm (1:48.17) placing second and freshman Cameron Cook (1:50.22) earning third.

In the 100 Backstroke, freshman David Miller swam a brilliant 54.00 to win the race, closely tailed by senior Luke Novak (54.63). The 100 Breaststroke saw first year Ian Hofmann capture the win with a mark of 58.79. Right behind Hofmann in second place was sophomore Bart Kubis, swimming a time of 58.94.

Next up in the 200 Fly, junior Joe Nadur captured his first win of the day with a time of 2:00.28. Also placing second was Blue Streak sophomore Sam Kmet with a time of 2:01.29. In the 50 Free, junior Daniel Argalious sprinted to a first place finish with a blazing time of 21.69.

After a diving break, the Streaks were back in action in the 100 Free, where senior Bryce Liddell won his second race of the day with a time of 48.38. In third was Buffalo first year Kyle Priset with a mark of 49.40.

A perfect podium in the 200 Backstroke was led by Luke Novak, swimming 1:59.19. Right behind Novak were Cameron Cook (2:00.53) and David Miller (2:01.63). In the 200 Breaststroke, duo Bart Kubis (2:15.04) and Patrick Branch (2:15.25) took home first and second places, respectively.

Sam Kmet doubled back on his 1000 Free win with a dominant 500 Free performance, winning with a cruising mark of 4:58.23. Next, the 100 Fly title went to senior Bryce Liddell (52.64), his third win of the afternoon. In second place for JCU with a time of 52.99 was Luis Delgado Aguilar.

In the 200 IM, Joe Nadur took home his second individual victory of the meet with a time of 1:58.63. Completing the clean sweep for the Blue Streaks were Medina first year Zach Marinis (2:02.43) and Ian Hoffman (2:02.61).

Closing out the afternoon, the Streaks won the 400 Free Relay in dominant fashion. Placing first was the team of Bryce Liddell, Kyle Priset, Patrick Branch, and Daniel Argalious with a time of 3:12.23. Third was the team of Cameron Cook, Dominic Falcon, Owen Holm, and David Miller with a mark of 3:13.79.

Assistant Coach Maddie Dolce said this about the men's dominant performance: "Everybody came together as a team today. Coming off a win Friday night against Mount Union, I think everyone was really determined today. Our distance guys like Sam Kmet really had some solid swims, and there were solid swims all around. Everyone is looking strong and doing what they need to do."

John Carroll will travel across state lines to Danville, Kentucky for the Centre Quad Meets against Centre, DePauw and Lynchburg. The meet is set to take place on Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2.
