Blue Streaks Sweep 2024 Winking Lizard Tournament Defeating SUNY Brockport

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - After coming off a dominating win against Grove City College last night, the Blue Streaks continue to impress by defeating the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles by a score of 92-65 to end the Winking Lizard Tournament.

JCU was firing on all cylinders this afternoon as SUNY Brockport didn't have any answers to stop the Blue Streaks' momentum, ending day two of the 2024 Winking Lizard Tip-Off Tournament in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center. The Blue Streaks have swept the tournament for the sixth straight season.

SUNY Brockport got off to a hot start as they jumped to a 7-0 run to open up the game in the first quarter, but then came in the Blue Streaks as they would answer with an 8-0 run to tie the game. Ultimately, SUNY Brockport would get a quick basket to end the first quarter.

The Blue Streaks would come out of the gate in the second quarter as they would outscore the Golden Eagles 23-9. Leading for JCU in the first half was junior Graci Semptimphelter, who scored a total of nine points; three three pointers to help propel the offense and extend their lead to 15 with three minutes left till the end of the first half.

JCU would continue to put their foot on the gas as junior Carmen Heucker would nail a corner three pointer to maintain that lead, while junior Ava Ryncarz would contribute throughout the game as she would conclude the day with a total of 30 points, 12 rebounds, and one assist. Semptimphelter would continue her hot streak throughout the second half as she would score another three pointer to score nine total points for the Blue Streaks.

Junior Ella Neitzel would have herself a day as she would record a total of 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists to continue to contribute throughout the game in the starting lineup. Coming off the bench for the Blue Streaks, Graci Semptimphelter would go on to win Winking Lizard All-Tournament Team honors, followed by Ava Ryncarz, who would win Tournament MVP.

Senior Carly Perusek would lead JCU in rebounds with 14, coming off the bench for the team as she would also contribute heavily for JCU.

Looking at total statistics from day two, the Blue Streaks would shoot 42.5% from the three point line, going 17-40 throughout the game. They were also 41.5% from the range, shooting 34-82. JCU's bench would be a huge contribution, scoring a total of 31 points for the Blue Streaks and 19 points off turnovers.

It was another total team effort as the Blue Streaks would continue to excel on both ends of the floor and would outscore their opponents this tournament by double digits. Three players from JCU would also go on to score double digits.
